Be prepared for absolutely stunning views of the ocean as far as your eyes can see, waves crashing against the jagged rocks of the cliffs and a beautifully restored historic lighthouse perched high above it all. This is definitely one that you want to see if in the area. It was quite busy on the weekend and we could hardly get any photos without a ton of people walking in them. If you really want some great views of this lighthouse, make sure to take the cliff side trail. We wore hiking shoes and felt quite comfortable climbing the rocks. I saw some people managed with sandals and sneakers but I totally recommend wearing hiking boots. There is a small gift shop here and an ice cream truck nearby. We parked at the 1st lot we saw but there are more parking nearer to the light house. Self paid parking.By Loann Nguyen (5 months ago)You must visit this exquisite place. You will pay for parking but it’s nominal, I think we paid $4 for a couple hours. Get the Passport Parking app and you can pay right from there. You are able to explore the grounds and get right up to the Lighthouse. The views are unbelievable especially in the winter. Although the last time we saw it was in July from a boat so I could be wrong! I believe the actual Lighthouse was closed when we went so we just explored the trails around it. There is a Cliff Walk which runs along the cliff’s edge that you can take. Be careful in the snow; it’s very slippery! There is also a sledding hill with perfect unobstructed views of the ocean. Additionally there are many flat snowy areas to build snowmen or have a snowball fight. In the summer I can imagine picnics or just strolling around to enjoy the views. The neighborhood it’s located in has beautiful homes if you’re like me and enjoy looking at dream homes.By M. Travels (a year ago)A very popular historic site during most seasons. Parking can be challenging during tourist season and it can be crowded at peak times. Despite that, it is well worth a visit. The grounds and the house are nice and the views all around are spectacular. The adjacent park has trails for walking and it’s a great place to picnic as well. The park itself is great. There’s a nice hiking trail, lots of wildlife, it’s clean, and the views are nice. There’s also an unnamed beach/picnic area a little ways down with super clean sand and water. Beautiful sight. Lovely scenery. There is a small parking lot which can fill up fast, especially during tourist season. The lighthouse is ok, but with the rocks and the waters makes for a nice picture. Overall it was a nice, quick stop. You cannot go inside but can view the lighthouse from both sides… Small parking lot but there are bathroom facilities available. Wear those shoes if you want to take pictures from the rocky shoreline on the left side. Be careful. Not interesting for young kids.By Tracy Johnston Caruso (6 months ago)Bass Harbor Lighthouse is an iconic site to see. It is not in Bar Harbor proper but about 30 minutes away. It is worth going.
It is not possible to go into the lighthouse or even to get really lose to it but the view of it is stunning and, again, ‘very Maine.’
There is very little parking but since there’s not much to see, parking turns over frequently. There are rest rooms.
Be sure to go down the path at the far end of the parking lot since that takes you to the Rock cropping and the iconic views.
Definitely go even if it’s raining. We did and it was still great to see.

The lighthouse is still a private residence, so make sure you are respectful of the boundaries around the property. Short walk from parking area to lighthouse, then be sure to walk down to the rocks for a breath taking view of the shore line. A fantastic place to ski with friends and family. Great mountain for all levels. Impeccably manicured, tons of trails open, fast lifts with minimal wait. Food was perfect and fast. Lots of room, inside and out to rest. The staff is amazing, friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. Plenty of parking with shuttles. I was there late March but still decent snow for 50°F. The resort just keeps sprawling and you can go a day or two without hitting the same thing twice easy. As a beginner skier I was able to get beginner lessons while my friends could go on double diamond paths. Can get very crowded on the weekends starting as early as 8am. It’s a ski resort that offers so much and all the staff are super kind and friendly. I’m fairly new to snowboarding and I took a 3-hour lesson with Dalton (he is a great and dedicated instructor) he helped me learn how to navigate down a green which has been tough for me to learn. For après, you have many options: my favorite is the foggy goggle! Can’t go wrong with spicy maple wings 😍 we come to Sunday river as a group every year and it’s consistently a great ski trip.

We tent camped here for two nights. It was quiet during the time we went (Sept 11-13), so not too many camping. The site was nice and spacious, including a picnic table and ring for a campfire. Sites are well spaced out too, and there are many large boulders in between. Fun for kids to climb! Bundles of wood are available at the checkin booth for $6. Bathrooms/showers are also available and very spacious. There is a downhill trail leading to the lake, with a spot to swim, small playground for kids, picnic tables and grills, and a trail to walk. They also offer kayak, boat, and canoe rentals for $3 an hour per boat (as of 2022). There are bathrooms by the lake, as well, and spots to rinse off.
This place is peaceful and beautiful, thickly wooded with views of the mountains when you’re at the lake. You can hear the loons on the lake at night!

There are a few short trails available for a short step out or a couple longer hikes for those wanting to make a day outing. There are several nice views throughout the park of mountains and the lake below. There is also a scavenger hunt of sorts as there are quite a few picnic tables scattered through the trails that are a bit…odd…take a look and enjoy the hunt! Well recommended! Great rangers and staff. Laid back. The campground park was great as well. We stayed for 4 nights. Clean facilities with showers. Great environment and family friendly. There are a few sites for reserve that have electric (hard to get as there aren’t many. Lol). Generators are allowed (8am-8pm). Pet friendly! Go and stay or hike or swim! I went around 1:00pm it was not crowded , the entrance fee is $5 per person , the restrooms area are SO clean. The park itself is well maintained, lots of great views and space to spend a relaxing time.The beach is rocky but it has an area where you can walk on sand. Inexpensive camp sites well spaced and with good tree cover. About a dozen sites with utilities (power/water/sewer). This is a bare bones state park. No camp store, no amenities to speak of… They did have decent fire wood for sale at entrance. We stayed in an RV (no hook ups on our site) and unfortunately 2 of the three bath houses were closed. Most were there in tents, teardrops or smaller campers. We were told water was off for the whole place 2 days prior to our arrival. When we left, the dump station was closed due to a back up. It was pretty clear the septic systems were failing. The road in is long and poorly maintained. Word around camp was the state was not putting any money into the place. Too bad. Great potential! The place is set on a 12 mile lake with a medium size beach and play area. Has a couple of well marked, short hiking trails (under 4 miles). Boat rentals available about 3 miles away at Merrills marina. Overall an enjoyable place to be with friendly and respectful campers. Be prepared to be self sufficient!By Mike McDonnell (a year ago)

Between the amazing, the challenging hikes, and the accessible viewing locations this is a bucket list visit. From Cadillac Mountain to the Bubble Rock you will not be disappointed. Tip if you do the Great Head Trail go counterclockwise, you will thank me later.
Amazing place! We did a lot of hiking and really enjoyed just sitting on the rocks while taking in the views. We stayed at the Holiday Inn resort and then rode the free park hop on hop off bus. The bus made it so much easier to enjoy the park as we didn’t have to worry about finding parking at each stop. We left our vehicle at the hotel and the bus picked up right outside the lobby. So many places to see.
Amazing park with non-hiking highlights that can be seen in two days. Lots of non-strenuous trails for younger and older alike and those with short attention spans. Ample handicap parking. Beautiful sights. Friendly and helpful rangers. Convenient bathrooms. Walking on the sandbar bridge at low tide was a wonderful family experience. Hitting the boardwalk trail in the meadows was a good way to stretch our legs. Thunder Hole was awe inspiring and peaceful. Cadillac Mountain featured incredible views. Sand Beach and Seal Harbor were kid favorites and great for family time.
This national park is absolutely beautiful, and I 100% percent recommend you go visit. I was here for a week, and it was one of the best times I have had. I went on countless hikes, and each was very enjoyable. The views were amazing, and made each hike worth it. I stayed in Bar Harbor with some friends, and it was such a cute town. I have not been to many different national parks, but this one was one of the best!!
One of the prettiest National Parks I’ve visited. I loved being able to climb Cadillac Mountain and greet the sunrise. Otter cliffs were stunning. Jordan Pond was picture perfect. The trails offered varied in length and intensity. So glad to cross Acadia off my bucket list. My young son thoroughly enjoyed the trip too. Would love to visit again in the Springtime or Summer.
