A large park smack-dab in the middle of New Haven with plenty of green space, sitting areas, walking paths, and bus stops! There’s also plenty of parking surrounding the green and nearby. There’s also tons of shops and restaurants around, should you need a change of scenery! The Green’s especially beautiful when the Cherry Blossoms bloom! Lots of shops around and plenty of restaurants to explore.the park is kept quite clean and benches are easily found to rest at. It’s quieter on the College St. side, but there is less sunshine due to more trees. Give and take the good for the bad. Like in life…there is always a trade off.
Only downside is the homeless community that stays around the park and it will keep you on alert unfortunately. Sometimes interfering with your alone time. If you are looking for a quiet park, this is not the park to sit at. There seems to always be something going on.

I live about 5 blocks away and love going to the yearly Arts & Ideas festival they have on the green in addition to the yearly Christmas tree lighting ceremony. I will say the green can also be a semi-dangerous area as well (to be expected in a downtown city) but the two sides of the green that serve as bus stations/stops can be a “hot-spot”. Truly amazing experience of Lighthouse Point Park. Usually during the summer visiting this park is $10 per car but I visited in late October, entry was totally free. Sunset from this lighthouse park is amazing. You can easily spend two to three hours walking on the beach, taking pictures and lighthouse provides good photo opportunities. Please be careful when walking on the Jetty, rocks were slippery. Some boulders were granite which may have transported from somewhere else. The entire area feels like a dream at times with it’s crisp air, view of the dock, lighthouse and shoreline. It’s also a prime landmark for photographers and hammockers! Its worth it if you are gonna spend the day, because it’s not as crowded as other beaches (we went mid August)
We just wanted to see the lighthouse and walk on the rocks, so the price was disappointing.

The museum and gift shop is nice and the house is incredible. It is 11,500 square feet. It is a magnificent house and has so many unique & detailed design elements from stenciling on the walls to intricate hand carved woodwork. There are so many rooms. The house is very dark because that was the style back then. There was a 1 hour guided tour, which was very informative. The museum is great as well as the tour of his home.
You can even have a tour of the house by an actor in period costume who portrays someone who knew Mark Twain such as his wife.If you wish to tour the house I strongly suggest you purchase tickets in advance online at the Museum website. I did so. The day I went they were “sold out”. There were a large number of “walk-ins” who were disappointed and could not tour the house.
Tour is limited to eleven people with a tour every fifteen minutes.
Tour itself lasts approximately an hour.Photos are not permitted of the interior of the house.
A great stop for those with teenagers who have had to read one of his books for school.They also have one of the nicest gift shops.
You can cover both the Mark Twain House & Museum and the Harriet Beecher Stowe house on the same day since they are literally right next to each other.

The house is well preserved and has much architectural detail that is unique. For example, Tiffany did the wall treatments long before he became known for his work with stained glass. Also, we did not realize that Clemens and Harriet Beecher Stowe were neighbors and influenced each other’s views on social justice. Plan to take the Stowe house tour after your visit to the Twain house for a more complete experience. There is a snack bar and bathrooms on the premises so a day trip is easily accomplished. Also, be aware that no photography is allowed in the house itself.By Lisa Emblidge (2 months ago)This was a great find on our trip to Hartford. My wife and I are both big fans of Mark Twains works. To see the desk he wrote at and the house he lived in breathes new life and gives color to his works. Unfortunately the interior tours were booked the day we arrived impromptu. We will plan another trip here and schedule a tour of the house. We were able to look in at the arboretum / green house section which looked delightful. A beautiful house and wonderful artifacts. Every question I could think of I asked along with my children and Pastor. He never seemed annoyed. He just answered, making sure to speak directly to the person who asked, no matter how young. It was enjoyable as well.
The home felt like somebody was in it with us and I’m not talking about other people.

Super awesome park with great hikes! I took advantage of the unseasonably warm fall days to take my pup up for a hike. I did the ‘4 peaks’ hike and it didn’t disappoint! Great views at all the peaks and it was more challenging than expected!! A minor drawback is that parking spaces are rare and not easy to find. There’s supposed to be entry for the car to go straight to the top of it, but they closed it. I mean, its better so we pushed ourselves to do a lil exercise is it not? Nice view on the top, just a lil windy!

Take the Old English road so you can use the giant steps trail to reach the top. Beautiful scenery even on a brisk winter morning! I throughly enjoyed walking the paths, gazing in the greenhouses and taking in the fresh air. Very clean and well kempt.
The place is absolutely beautiful. You can go for a walk, run or just to sit and relax. Plenty of spots with a view and shade Or just go have a picnic with the family. If you love flowers and nature you need to go. The rose festival is a great time to visit.
As always spectacular… we chose to go earlier in the morning before a lot of people and loved listening to all the birds, seeing the bees, and butterflies flying around. A fabulous area to walk, bring a picnic, read a book in the scent of roses, of pines… pick a fabulous place, and take a pause. You deserve it.
Gorgeous and well-maintained rose and wildflower gardens. A bit of walking in full sun so prepare for that in the summer. More than just roses too, Dalia garden, wildflowers, and butterfly plants!
Had a little time before flight out so wife & I went to Elisabeth Park as we heard it was nice. Late Oct & a lot if roses still blooming on top of all the beautiful Fall Foilage & decorations. We hope we can get back during full flower season if it looks this good now. The gardens, water features and open areas were exceptional. Highly recommended.
