This is quite a unique memorial to Terry Fox and his legacy of will and passion. This is a quiet location which overlooks the area of Thunder Bay and gives great meaning to his legacy. We loved this place. Everyone was friendly and helpful. A lot of activities to enjoy in the historical park. Gives you a good vibe of Canada’s history as well as you get to see it and feel it. We will definitely be back there for another event. There was fast hot food selling in the park at an affordable amount and it was delicious. I had the fish and chips with my husband.By Yinka A. (7 months ago)Having grown up in Thunder Bay and visiting the fort every year in elementary school the experience was always taken for granted. As an adult and bringing my family to visit the Fort is a whole different experience. The actors and employees were all super knowledgeable and friendly! My only negative is that the Great Hall was closed with no reason as to why.

(6 months ago)Fort William Historic Park was an unexpected highlight to our trip. We were well aware of it’s location, but didn’t prioritize going there as similar parks in the past had left us underwhelmed.When we had a couple hours to spare on one of our last days we came to the park and we’re blown away.
From the website we weren’t aware that the $12 entry included a guided tour.
Our tour guide the Montreal Voyager Mr. Felix was spectacular! He showed us the Anishnabe Encampment, the Warf, the wintering house, the trade house, the fur cabin, the canoe shop, and the Great Hall. He was incredibly knowledgeable, enthusiastic and brought an amazing energy to our “brigade”!
The site is massive and is a beautiful reconstruction, while also offering a few original items, replicas of others that are stored within the Canadian archives, and a variety of objects we were free to touch and interact with like a variety of tools and furs! Being able to feel first hand how wolf, fox, mink, bear, moose, deer and of course the famed prime beaver felt to the touch was a great experience!
The shop where canoes are still being made to this day had a delightful woody aroma, as well as spectacular birch canoes ranging from those size most would expect to the gigantic Montreal Transport canoes that carried 12 men and over two thousand pounds of fur each!
At the end of the tour we were able to explore the grounds freely!
This was a delightful experience and would gladly recommend it to anyone visiting the area, particularly those who enjoy learning about history!

Our family favorite was the dairy farm where we were able to interact with sheep, goats, chickens and a pig. A
The cantina had a limited, but good menu with reasonable prices. This is a must stop place in the area.

Had a magical time at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park! We hiked the four hardest trails in two days and stayed in a cabin by the lake. The views were worth the trek!! We conquered the giant by reaching the top, head, and chest of the giant. We will be back and recommend this to those who enjoy a good hike and spectacular views! *Make sure you are fully loaded with bug spray and keep some in your pack!!!
Loved it, but my God, the mosquitoes!! We hiked one of 3 routes (went to his chest), and had hopes for the hike, but honestly, the trail was not interesting. Awesome views at the top, but it’s rated as a moderate hike – on a hot day, the hilly terrain makes it a lot tougher than moderate.
This is our second visit to the park and we were not disappointed in any way, shape or form.
We stayed at Marie Louise Provincial Campground in the midst of Sleeping Giant and we totally recommend this campground.
The scenery is amazing, and with several lakes in the park, you’re not restricted on water access by a trail hike to get to the shores of Lake Superior. Pass Lake also has a campground though we’ve never stayed there, it’s not really encompassed by forest as it’s more open concept.
We had a great campsite, but there’s LOT’S of great sites in here.
The wildlife was amazing as well, while there were the regular squirrels and chipmunks, we seen 9 deer, 3 of which were in the bush across from our site, a fox snuck up on us one of the nights causing a startle then got scared when we got scared lol.
10/10 for certain!!!
Just a short visit to this massive park. Be aware that there is no gatehouse on the road, to buy a daily use permit you either have to stop at Joeboy Lake or Maria Lake campgrounds. We hiked to the Sea Lion rock formation. A nice trail, starting with some new stairs, leads off of the main trail. Not marked at all so you have to use your wits and scramble up a couple of rock tumbles to get to the viewing point, but that is part of the adventure. There is a couple of points where you can access the rocky beach and relax by the crystal clear water of Lake Superior.
This is an absolutely spectacular provincial park. With a huge array of hiking trails ranging from quick easy and accessible routes. To grouping hikes dozens of kilometers long and up steep inclines to spectacular views.
The camp sites at Mary Louise Lake were spacious with very conveniently spaced out amenities such as large bathrooms and water filling stations. The comfort station at the site was also the best I’ve been to at an Ontario park.
The main highway running through the park is scenic and well paved. At the southern point of the road it leads you through the town of Silver Islet which was established many years before the park to mine silver on an islet off the coast, (and whose founding company eventually donated the park lands to the province). It’s a quite town with a handful of businesses that offer tours for tourists. And the General Store which is a MUST SEE (read my review for that once it’s posted)
