I have been to the Remai Modrn art Gallery a few times now and this most recent time was better than what I remember in the past. In the past I came here for a few events that the museum had. This time I found there was a lot more interesting things to see and check out here such as the art display in the front entrance and is visible from all over the museum. It also has a large room that shows the history of the events from 2020 to present. The artwork in this area is by people who have come to the gallery and designed their art and feelings of the past couple years. Some of it is pretty creative and well thought out. It is on main level before you go up the stairs. There is also lots of neat First Nations artwork too see and more. It is much better now than what I remember it. The museum has three levels and is right on the river bank at River Landing with great views of the South Saskatchewan River from around the museum. The museum is very clean with lots of space to move around. It also has a nice area to with a few seats to sit by a fireplace near where the lockers are to put your jackets in or anything you don’t want to carry around with you when visiting. Th museum also has a gift shop to the left when you first enter the museum and a new restaurant that is coming soon. The museum has new artwork on a regular basis and admission is by donation.By Donald hood (a month ago)Awe-inspiring experience. Views of the river are fantastic! Guides are knowledgeable. I know knew that Bisons are bigger than I thought. I love the mirror maze area most out of all galleries—beautiful art by world-class artists. Free lockers are there to put one’s belongings, and how to use them is also written. Along with stairs, elevators are also there. Mediocre artwork is normally on display, despite there being FAR better artwork hidden inside the vaults. Even a BEAUTIFUL wooden model of the River Landing area, that is hidden on the 4th Floor, that should be in the Atrium for public display. The Picasso linocuts (largest collection in the world) / ceramics is a major draw, but the quality / curation of the other works set a high standard. Visited the museum and park back in September 2021. It’s amazing the amount of effort and funding that’s been given to keep this place up and running. There’s so much more that needs to be done to preserve such a historic area but one needs to acknowledge what’s already in place. Ask the ticket office about the yours and shows. You can of course walk on your own but being part of a your allows the people who are working there -researchers mainly- to share their own experience and insights of the place. I hope I can visit again someday and by then I hope I’ll be able to learn more about the rich history that’s been long hidden.By Pushpa Hossain (a year ago)A great exhibition in this beautiful building and a chance to learn about the indigenous peoples and community and how they lived.
We enjoyed viewing the bison herd (24) at a distance from a viewing area and discovering how the herd is growing.
The trails offer some good walking so it’s best to wear shoes rather than sandals. We saw some colourful yellow and black birds (finches?) and were surprised to find so few people walking about. It seemed like we had the place to ourselves.
The display of Hoop dancing was terrific- the man ( cannot recall his name) told us the history and how he came to do the dancing and it’s significance. The dancing doesn’t take place everyday so we were lucky.
Lunch in the cafe was ok but the service was slow.
Good to know such an interesting place is close to the city of Saskatoon. There’s a fun play area for children too.By Julie (7 months ago)Wanuskewin is an essential visit for the Saskatoon tourist, and a wonderful place to visit regularly for the Saskatoon resident. The conference center is gorgeous. One can learn about Indigenous culture in the exhibits and at special events. The trails are full of whimsical nooks, and offer opportunities to become familiar with Indigenous and environmental history, as well as prairie ecology. And now there are bison! Truly educational and highly recommend this place for all, so much to see. I’ve included many pictures that I took with phone, if you have a good camera bring it with you, the flora and fauna is abundant without to see.By Blair Norton (7 months ago)I’m visiting Saskatchewan from Orlando, Florida and it was recommend to me to visit Wanuskewin. It wasn’t too crowded. We arrived 15 minutes before the hoop dancer so we’re fortunate to hear him speak beforehand and then perform. It was excellent and I feel fortunate that we arrived when we did. I learned so much from the performance and the museum. The gift shop also has some nice local gifts. The restaurant has a unique menu that includes elk, bison and bannock (which I tried for the first time) and we walked to the observation area where we saw the multiple bison in the distance. Amazing place, has changed quite a bit since I was a kid, animals are in good shape looked well looked after, unfortunately you can no longer bring a picnic inside. A few bad apples ruined it for the rest of us, however they still have a concession there with daily specials and quality food. Highly recommended attending if you are in the city for the day
The park is also beautiful and should not be missed at all. Highly recommend checking out the meditation garden
Another awesome day at the zoo. Half way through the visit an unexpected thunderstorm interrupted things! Luckily the pavilion was open and we were able to wait it out there. The staff were fantastic and there were enough activities for the kids to pass the time before the storm broke. Had a great time!
Second time to visit. We previously got the family pass & it was a breeze with admission this time. The birds are now back as compared to last May when they were kept due to the avian flu. The canteen & the monkey area is currently under construction which is a bummer since last time, we enjoyed watching the little monkeys. We loved the color of the changing trees! We took photos, picnicked under the tree. Oh the highlight of our visit was the prarie dog. They were so cute my family had fun interacting with them. The butterfly building seemed done but closed for the season. Unfortunately. The zoo is small compared to Calgary zoo but it’s not that bad since they’ve got many animals for the little ones as well. Porcupine, bald eagle, snowy owl, grizzly bear, elk, etc. Overall our visit was great! Would be coming back for more 😊
Park is nice but Zoo was expensive with not many animals around. If you would like to go for a picnic the whole day with family this would be a great place to go for….just don’t go to the Zoo…was expensive and nothing much to see really….even though it wasn’t a hot day when I was visiting! Good place to take pictures and walking on trails
The zoo was operating on winter hours and entry is by donation. I was there during feeding time and it is very obvious by the quality of food the animals receive, just how important those donations are. Fresh fruit and veggies, cut up for the porcupine. Baby chicks and mice for the owls and hawks. Fresh portions of raw meat for the meat eaters and tons of hay for the bison, antelope and deer!! The lynx and bobcat and snow leopard are highlights of the park. The park offers a great walk around as well as the exciting and beautiful animals. A great spot to take the kids to wear off some energy and have a learning experience at the same time!!
