What a fantastic, fun, friendly place this is. The staff was so nice, and helpful, and greeted us on the way and explained all the ins and outs of where to go and what to do. There was just so many things to entertain the kids, it was also very educational, hands-on, just a bunch of happy and smiling faces. As you will see from the pictures and videos, they were two separate children’s museums, and a park, and a beautiful view of the lake. They have daily activities the kiddos can participate on as well as themed summer camps. I love seeing those little mental gears turning the moment we walk in. Some items are definitely worn out (the air tubes with scarves), and missing some items from the doctor/dentist area, but the kids definitely don’t care. This is a great place to watch the parrots come in to roost for the night. We saw over 100 parrots fly in from Mexico. The latest addition was the skate park that replaced the basketball courts, there are plenty of ramps and features for skateboarders. However, it needs major maintenance. Piles of debris and brancheshave been by big trash bins for weeks. Curbs are full.of leaves, and trash receptacles are full. The sidewalk to the new walking trail is obstructed by a tree. The branches need to be trimmed or someone is going to get scratched.
Walk the dog every day…just wished they had a dog park so you could let the dog loose. Plenty of space to put one up.

Suggest they find way to be open on Mondays. We were not the only ones who drove from diffraction state to see museum. It looks like a great place to see. Take your walking shoes because to see alot of this you have to walk a bit. I never heard of this battle prior to stumbling upon it. The do a re-enactment first Saturdays of the month t 10 am except during the summer. Great place to go for a morning hike, bike ride, or an afternoon picnic with the family. Trails are well defined and clean, some of them have observation decks; they have benches and clear signs. Absolutely enjoyed walking around the trails. I was able to see colorful species of birds. Its bike friendly, although you can only use in designated areas. Please pay the entrance fee…it’s only $4 per adult. Kids under 12 are free. Hiking trails are surprisingly difficult and the park itself is a good size. Like effectively every nature preserve in the RGV, this is an amazing place to go birding and wildlife viewing in general. This place has plenty of animals and a few more new additions coming soon!, the petting zoo wasn’t open, but I’m sure by the beginning of next year it will be up and running again. This place also has a children’s playground, available for kids 4 years and older. You can expect to spend at least 3 hours here, including time for the concessions, and a quick 5-10 minute sit down. It’s a very decent sized zoo, my son and wife loved it.
I usually have mixed feeling about zoo’s. In this case, I was surprisingly impressed with almost every individual environment. Very clean with several waterfalls, and sensory items.
Other than the black bear. That little guy needs more.

Such a cute zoo. Wish more of the concession stands were open in the zoo, but I know with covid there are staffing shortages. The zoo is well maintained and the staff were all friendly. Especially the young man running the petting zoo today.
Even though it was terribly hot outside, the zoo offered plenty of shady paths and places to cool off. The animal exhibits are wonderful and there were several air conditioned buildings including the aquarium and reptile buildings. The prices in the gift shop were reasonable and we really enjoyed our time here. Would definitely visit again!
Great zoo, to bad they did away with the elephant. Lots of construction going on for some new exhibits. Hope this zoo picks up new animals. Used to be a great zoo now it’s just a zoo. They only had one tiger and 3 camels where the elephant used to be.we need a miracle for these animals. Will continue to visit and report how the progress is going.
