The Capitol building and Capitol Park in the fall are gorgeous. The property and building were beautiful and they offer free tours that take roughly an hour. It’s rich in history and the interior is absolutely amazing to see. They let you explore a large amount of the Capitol building on your own as well.By Helen R. The park and walking trails are wonderful and well kept. Covered bridge, 1876 barn, picnicking and play areas but the jewel is the mansion. The 45 min tour was steeped in historical info and fun facts. Even about visitors, toys, and use of an Ouija board. The cantilevered staircase, clothing and furniture that has been preserved after use in the home is amazing. The home sits on a beautiful park with several other buildings. At the end of the tour, they give you a map and some information about the rest of the property. What a beautiful and heart wrenching place to learn about our Civil War. The staffnis incredibly helpful and kind. The exhibits are remarkable, and the presentation is thoughtfully laid out. The first room we entered brought tears to my eyes, seeing the history pf our country laid out so honestly. I highly recommend a visit to this museum. It has a very neutral feel, just presenting the facts leading up to and during the war. There is recognition of a variety of individuals that were in the war, videos along the way, and of course lots of pieces used at the time. Be sure to check out the medal of honor room. FYI if you plan to use your Time Travelers Pass to receive a discount, not worth it! They gave my family of 4 “adult” priced tickets, 25 cents per person!

We stayed at the RV Park for a few days.
If you can, arrive in daylight. The sites are in the back of the park after you drive past a bunch of stuff.
The office is a large building (for an check in office) on the right shortly after passing the water park. Stop there for a map and instructions.
No water or sewer. We had 50 Amp electric. The call it 220 volt, but it is standard RV 50 Amp on two 110 legs. They also call it “full electric” which had me wondering if other places offer partial electric!
Metro is just a short drive. Parking garage is a mess! Very confusing. Cost was about 5 bucks for the day. We bought metro cards at the station, but we would still be there trying to figure out the purchase machine if a staff member didn’t feel sorry for the old dummies and push the correct buttons. Next time I would set up my phone to pay at the turnstile since it seems to be set up so you buy you fare ahead of time but you better know where you want to get on and off. We tend to fly by the seat of our pants and thought about changing our departure station, but we were concerned that the system might crash if we did!
Back to the RV Park:

Must bring your own chairs or blankets but the stage and the lighting is awesome. There is some parking, but on busy nights like this most park along the road. Porto potties were available.By lexi mills (5 months ago)In addition to its dedication to preserving history, this park Both one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Harrisburg area. It’s big, well-maintained, and I agree with some of the others, it’s also way under utilized. This would be a great place to take a date for a picnic, take yourself for a run or some yoga as you watch the sun come up, or brush up on some of the local history it’s serene location shares with the public. I plan on returning as often as possible. On the hill there is a beautiful set of nude statues. Beautiful place to hike/walk. Fairly flat so good for pretty much everyone. We went during the fall and it was amazing. Pretty quiet and serene. A lot of side trails to explore! I’d go here again.
Small but very kid friendly! The interactive exhibits were very inviting and appealed to families. Some of the exhibits did not work, one had lights that were out, on others the phones didn’t work. There is a great nature viewing set of windows with binoculars. They overlook bird feeders and a nice area to watch. There was a lot of literature about the area and I was able to pick up a scavenger hunt for my classroom.
It was a gloomy and rainy day but the outside looks very inviting. There is a boardwalk that goes around the property. The gift shop was well stocked and inviting.
Although the bathrooms were accessible and the stalls were big enough for my walker, there were no benches throughout the museum. I had to cut my visit short because aside from the chairs at the bird watching window, there was no where to sit. That was disappointing.
one of the most beautiful places I’ve been too. It gets pretty packed early, so if you want to avoid people, and have more nature, this maybe isn’t for you. But still a great hike and good views.
This is a beautiful park! There is a trail to be found for all abilities. There are multiple bathroom locations. Lots of parking. Most of the trail has shade so it’s perfect for a hot summer day. The staff member at the nature center was very friendly and knowledgeable. If you love walking in nature definitely check this place out! Also everything is free to the public.?
Lovely park. Well maintained and great trails. The learning and educational center was cool. The man working there was super helpful and knowledgeable. Would definitely love to go back.
