This is a great place to go with family. I especially enjoyed the elephants, although I am sure they regularly change their exhibits. If you go, plan on bringing extra money for drinks and food. A bottle of Aquafina was $5.35. You could also opt to bring your own water and snacks, but make sure you follow the rules. Today when we checked into the gate, we didn’t have anyone check our bags. But always follow the rules they have on their site. It took us about 3 hours to walk briskly around the Zoo. If you want to take your time, I’d give it 5 hours and plan on eating. For those with walking troubles, you can rent a scooter in advance or rent a wheel chair. There are lots of hills to plan for, so make sure you have a good pusher for the chair. It is a wooded area, but sunscreen is still a good thing to have. Most of all, have fun! Hope this helps.By Stacy Crow (3 months ago)It’s a great zoo! I love the hiking option instead of the escalator. I do wish the animal exhibits were a bit bigger and they would focus on more education around our oceans. Otherwise, they have a great amount of programs and special events that I love to attend and I’m a member of the zoo. There’s always something happening there! I like that they have selections of craft beer and they’re starting to have more food from around the world. It would be nice if 1-2 nights a week they opened later and closed later like 11-7 in the summer months, but I understand that probably throws the animals off their feeding schedules. The enclosures seem really small compared to every other zoo I’ve been too. This zoo is not accredited anymore by the AZA and that is concerning. There is a huge lack of employees which can sour the experience. I recommend using the hiking trail as opposed to using the elevator or escalator. With a little effort, you can easily push a stroller up the hill. It’s pressed down dirt and not too steep, most (healthy) people are able to do it easily. Definitely get yourself some Dip N Dots ? they are a must have and a family favorite. They have a few gift shops to explore and scooter rentals. There is a lot of very well designed scenery/foliage sections throughout the zoo, although the enclosure decorations and foliage are often a bit lacking. Was surprised to see the relatively small size of many of the exhibits, especially for animals with roaming habits, as well as the large amount of dirty glass. There were a few main exhibits that had no animals, but this was likely due to both time of year and maintenance. Very beautiful and large place, mainly indoors but I would recommend going on a nicer day so you can get the full experience of the outer section as well. If you’re a plant lover, you will absolutely love this place. There’s a lot selection of plants and trees. There were little signs that have information about what you were looking about, and fun facts about them. During our visit there were a lot of exhibits that were closed because they were working on them. The first look inside was breath taking. A feast for the senses. Fun, accessible, free parking and excellent for adults and children alike. Friendly and helpful staff. Cute cafe. The floral displays are outstanding and I never miss their seasonal shows for Spring, Summer, Fall and Christmas/Winter! They also often have an amazing train display for the winter season. Parking on the “Island” in front of the Conservatory on Schenley Drive is free… and on Sundays all street parking is also free. Their cafe also offers good options for lunch or a snack or beverage. Structurally and aesthetically, the location is super well designed; even indoors you feel outdoors. Our pictures depict a time when there were glass sculptures inside as well! Just a lovely juxtaposition of built vs. natural environment.

Had to purchase tickets in advance as they only allow so many at a time. It flowed so nicely. You had enough time to enjoy and look at things without being surrounded by people. Beautiful urban park with a fountain, green spaces, a biking path, and a museum that tells the story of the historic fort that once stood in this location. Very cool to see the beginning of the Ohio River at the tip of the park. A trip to Pittsburgh is not complete without visiting this place!
There is paid parking on the southeast corner of the park, adjacent to the freeway. From there, there’s a bit of walking involved to see all the park attractions, so definitely wear comfortable walking shoes. The museum also charges a fee, but all other attractions are free to visit.

The trails can take you downtown or to the North Shore where you can dine or access the various sports arenas in the area. The lawn area is good for picnics or playing games with family and friends. If you’re there during business hours, you can check out the museum and learn the history of Fort Pitt. The location of the park allows a person to see many angles of the city as well as the different leisure cruises on one of the three connecting rivers. I always have a nice time while running or sitting near the River. It is very relaxing and the scenery is very calming. The fountain was still not on at this time back in April so not sure if it’s running again. Really cool place to walk around, hang out near the water or watch the boats and ducks. Offers long stretches of running jogging trail on both sides. The sunset and sunrise views are mesmerizing. The fountain is a jewel in the park. Best hangout place for kids and families. You can see the cars come out of the Fort Pitt and across the bridge and you can see boats float down the rivers. Will say come during the summer when the leafs are on the trees. I went during mid April and I don’t know if any of you live in Pennsylvania but in my opinion when there are no leaves on the trees between October and April and pretty much nothing is green the scenery looks awful. Loved it here . It was a nice outdoor walk in the area after we left Phipps. We got a nice woods walk meets city vibe. A lots of cool old bridges and walk ways. Cool infrastructure! Was a nice way to get exercise as well! Definitely must experience at least once! The flowers are beautiful & they do an amazing job with their displays! It’s quiet & there are many rooms to see! They have inside & outside plants. There’s a really nice gift shop too! The Phipps has a cafe which has a nice menu with good healthy options. And there’s beer & wine too! They have different displays several times a year & I look forward to seeing each one! Many different entrances but I think the easiest is to park near the Library or Phipps.
Not generally crowded and you can choose to walk along the street in places or take one of the trails. Warning though, some of the trails can get a bit steep. Also may need to walk up a decent amount of steps.
All-in-all a cool urban park with tons to do within a few minutes.

Close to University of Pittsburgh and other area colleges it has myriad and beautiful displays of plants from all around the world and currently is showing light designs and Christmas oriented displays including both indoors and outdoors of live plants of all kinds. Our family travels about 1 1/2 hrs to come to Kennywood once a year because this truly is a great family park! It is so clean here, the staff are very nice, and the food is actually very delicious and full of flavor!! Potato Fries are the BOMB!! The games here are very kid friendly too! Our 4 yr old granddaughter actually won her own prize! Thanks Kennywood for being a family oriented park! You will always have our vote! ❤️
If you go on a weekday, it’ll be a lot less crowded. When we went, some of the rides were closed, which was disappointing, but still a great experience. Lots of trees and benches so you don’t really spend the whole day in the sun. The food was great! Large variety and reasonably priced. The cafe has AC, a nice selection of food and desserts, restrooms, and the people working in there were fantastic. The general park staff was awesome! Very friendly and accommodating to our special needs guest. Ample parking, both a free and a paid lot that was only $12 for the day. The arcade was small but inexpensive and the kids really enjoyed it. If you have a special need, go to Guest Services and ask for a free Disability Pass. It covers you and 3 other people riding with you. If your kid likes Thomas The Tank Engine, they will LOVE Thomas Town! (No additional charge for TT). The park also has ticket packages and season passes available.
Kennywood is absolutely amazing. All kinds of things to do. Lots and lots of great rides. They have some outstanding roller coasters. There’s also a lot of other things to do as well. Lots of good restaurants, gift shops, and games. It’s just a fun place to spend the day. I would recommend that people try it for sure. I’ve driven all the way to Pittsburgh from Cincinnati solely to go to this park twice.
Absolutely charming park of historical note, featuring numerous rare or one of a kind vintage rides, plus more modern attractions. Guests are welcome to bring in food to have their own picnics. Wonderful place to immerse yourself for a day of fun.

Took kids ranging from 2 to 10 and they all had fun.
The park was noticably understaffed. Also, I understand they have a captive audience, but $10 for a hot dog? Don’t they think that at $4, they may only make 1/3 as much but maybe sell 5 times more? There are fast food restaurants right outside the gate. Also, bought a $5 soda and they didn’t even offer a lid.
Lots of rides down without notice and the park is definitely showing it’s age.
The admission prices were much lower than a lot of other parks and the park has some serious roller coasters that are a big draw.
Overall, we had a fun time. Finding employees is hard now, but we interacted with several employees that obviously did not take any pride in their jobs or the park. There were some really good ones too, the uninspired ones did detract from the experience.
