Wow, such a nice day outing. This botanical garden is free to enter, has farm animals, several gardens, and much more. Saw ton of people taking wedding/senior pictures and having picnics. We arrived at 3pm on a Friday and the parking lot was packed but we were able to find the last one. I do believe there is street parking though. There are also public restrooms here. It’s a hugh place so although there were a lot of people, we walked around freely without feeling crowded. If you enjoy botanical gardens, you’ll be glad you check out this place.By Around the World (7 months ago)This is one of my favorite parks in the country and I’ve traveled a lot. I really love this place, I cannot stress this enough. There are tons of terrain options if you like a moderate workout.
Wildlife is abundant and easy to observe, most of them will not run away from you in my experience. The park is very large and is a good hangout or picnic spot. Certain things do cost money on a per diem basis but to explore the park, walk through the various gardens, listen to music, or participate in the activities hosted by the park are all free. The park is quite large so make sure you bring comfortable clothes, shoes, and water. There were several ideal places for an intimate or small family picnic too. Parking was free where we were, but limited so street parking may be needed. I did not see anyone on bikes or scooters so I am not sure if these things are prohibited or not.By Trent (7 months ago)It is breathtaking piece of land with beautiful nature , phenomenal views and very peaceful atmosphere. Definitely a highlight of visiting Richmond and a gem of the whole Virginia state. Wish I had more time to explore the whole estate but even a fraction of it felt very satisfying. Surprisingly enough , they don’t mandatory charge you for the entrance- donation is optional (and worthy). Family friendly 100 acre state, come enjoy seeing snakes, fish, eagles, owls and farm animals up front or try to climb on the new structure inside the nature center (we would have missed it had it not been mentioned to us by the front desk.)We’ve been here multiple times and it keeps improving. This time we got to also enjoy other parts of such as the Japanese garden and see the eagles.

We visited the museum as guests and used it as the venue for our wedding. On both fronts the experience was by all accounts immaculate. As a guest you have access to many interesting and creative exhibits and experiences for a relatively low price (especially as far as entertainment in the area goes). As an event venue you are treated to world class communication and professional coordination which in our case was lead by Shannon. Accessible displays for children of all ages. We came to watch the sharks: predator or prey exhibit, it had impressive displays of shark teeth and full size shark models, as well as some interactive exhibits. We cannot wait to come back because of the experience we had. My wife, my 3 year-old toddler son, my newborn, all were having a great time at the Dome show and all the different exhibits. Not to mention, everything was interactive and awesome for any age… You know the place is good when you are exhausted after being in there for 4 hours but still wanna have fun lol! He suffered a lot in his life especially towards the end and this museum has absolutely everything you would ever want …and not want to know about his life. It’s housed in beautiful old brick buildings and is a very fun walk-through experience. It sort of has a chaotic, cult vibe (there’s even a Poe shrine in the garden) which makes it that much more fun, but it’s also a great museum with lots of cool artifacts and intriguing information. To top it off, the museum has two gorgeous black cats named Edgar and Pluto, whom you are encouraged to pet. In the heart of Richmond, this museum has so much to offer. It’s in a small historic building and has way more than you’d think in terms of information and artifacts related to Edgar Allen Poe. They even have two cats that roam the property — one is even named Edgar! They have an option to do an audio guided tour and it is so worth it! All you need is to scan their QR code and it will bring up the audio tour — just remember to bring headphones. I learned so much from this museum and can’t wait to return. Their gift shop is great too with lots of options in a wide variety of price ranges so you don’t have to break the bank. Admission is only $9 for adults, but if you are active duty military you get to get in for FREE! One of the best places to view the Richmond city skyline and James River! I love visiting this park with some Sub Rosa or Proper Pie in hand. Peaceful place to sit, take in the sights, and exercise (yoga, walking, running, or aerobics). Nice place to walk the dog, too. Plenty of green space to lay down a picnic blanket or grab a seat on one of the many benches. Parallel parking is available around the perimeters of the park. Good accessibility for folks of all abilities. There are several tall stairs on the side of the hill facing the river. Lots of folks use them to exercise. The views here are spectacular, the history is amazing, the park is old, and the amenities are fabulous. Even the surrounding neighborhood is arguably the most historically and culturally interesting in the city. Impressive museum with collections from various cultures/time periods including Ancient Greek/Roman, African, American, Native American, European, and East/South Asian. However, what made this museum a little more special for me was the Art Deco/Nouveau section which is rarely part of the main galleries of the art museums.
General admission is FREE which is great as you can really take your time and see part of the museum and then come back at another time to see the rest.
In addition to the permanent collections they also do have ongoing exhibitions (some of them requires you to buy tickets).
Sculpture garden is nice to take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee or have a bite at a nice day.
Inside the museum masks are optional.
Free street parking nearby or $6 museum parking.

An absolutely amazing experience. It was raining so we couldn’t enjoy the outdoors. It was so much to see. I would have to come back. Artwork and collections are beautiful. Definitely coming back!! A nice place for a date. Food served for a price the reflect the cost for buying from a museum.
The exhibits are definitely why you want to go.

The cafe is big, has floor to ceiling windows, and enough seating. Next time, I’ll try the restaurant.l From the cafe you can see sculptures, gardens, and architecture. There is outdoor seating or you can sit on the grass picnic style.
However, the customer service was awful. The woman working at the counter was very abrupt and rude with me. I’m a person with disabilities, the non-visible kind. I asked how to get to the entrance to the exhibit after I had purchased my ticket she just waved her hand and said “over there, take the stairs” this place is full of stairs.
I have never been to this museum let alone the city before.
I got lost as I thought I would with those directions. Luckily, there are people who work on the floor.
Once I got to the right place it was a wonderful time. I bought the $5 handheld voice information device.
I think it was totally worth it.
100% recommend coming to this art museum! It is FREE and only costs $6 to park. What I like most about this museum is that there is an exhibit for everyone! Everything from Egyptian tombs to traditional paintings to contemporary art and even stunning jewelry and furniture. There is EVERYTHING here! I visited in January and had a fantastic time. I would recommend this place to anyone and plan to bring friends back. This is 100% the best art museum I’ve ever been to. I think it’s even better than the one in D.C. (way less crowded too). There are also tons of clean restrooms and a nice gift shop. You could easily spend 5+ hours here – it’s a spectacular museum.

Great place to come for some art! Beautiful old building to walk around in and explore all the wings with different types of art. Plus they usually have a special exhibit going on which is always worth checking out. Nice little cafe with some good coffee, various drinks and snacks to eat. The outside patio, garden and fountains on the grounds are great to sit around and relax in. They have a jazz night and various events that bring in the crowds which is a good time if you are looking for something to do. And as you can see from the pictures sometimes you can catch a majestic sunset here.
