A hidden gem.

Spent about 5 days exploring the monument range and wow…from the petroglyphs to the nearly untouched wilderness…it was a privilege to spend time here before it becomes more well known to wilderness enthusiasts.

If you visit make sure to gas up in Alamo. Carry plenty of water. Let people know where you’re going and when you will return.

The White River Narrows archaeological District, with him Basin and Range National Monument, had some interesting petroglyphs. The area is administered by the Bureau of Land Management.

It is recommended to have a high-clearance vehicle to drive around on the back roads. I did it in a rental car during the dry season and had no problem (but I have 40 years of experience driving desolate backroads). This area is very desolate. Bring lots of water and some extra food in case you are unable to leave the area as quickly as you originally planned.

We spent several hours here doing short hikes and just exploring the canyons. We visited in October and it was hot 80s F, but not unbearable. Many of the trails are very walkable and easy. I would recommend a hat and sunscreen as there is very little shade. It was about a one hour drive from Las Vegas and a perfect day trip. We combined this with also driving to Death Valley at sunset. Beautiful landscapes and so much to see. Highly recommend!

Red Rock is the perfect day trip if you are in Las Vegas and want to enjoy the outdoors. There are numerous trails, each with dynamically different scenery. The Calico Tanks is a 2.5 mile round trip hike with about 400-500 feet in elevation change. It is absolutely beautiful. When you get to the end, scale the wall for an amazing view of the entire Las Vegas Valley. If you are a bit adventurous, go off trail on the way back. You can’t get lost, as the canyon walls lead back to the trail head.

If you’re in Vegas this is a must see. It’s a quick 30min drive from the strip. It’s like a 20 minute drive without stopping to drive through. Very inexpensive and excellent scenery. There are areas to pull off every mile, each with incredible back drops for photos. There are trails after virtually every stop. From short hikes to advanced trails for long hikes. It’s got everything you could ask for. Absolutely gorgeous, a must see and one of the few inexpensive experiences you can find in Vegas.

Amazing scenic drive and the weather was perfect that day. If you time your entry right, don’t forget to have a picnic lunch at the Willow Springs parking lot… plenty of picnic tables just be aware they aren’t covered so you’re exposed to the sun. Many stops and parking lots along the scenic drive for photo opportunities. I’ll be back here again someday!

This was my first real glimpse of a proper desert, with mountains, giant boulders, Joshua trees, and those red rocks that give this place its name. It’s absolutely gorgeous and if you’re visiting Las Vegas this is a must. It’s only a 40-45 minute drive, and it’s easily accessible. There’s a 13 mile scenic loop that offers many stopping places for pictures. There are also many great trails. It’s just incredible to have such a scenic area so close to the Vegas strip. Do take plenty of water, but it’s just on the outskirts of suburban Las Vegas so food, gas, and shopping are only a short drive away.

Valley of fire State Park! Wow I can’t even begin to describe the beauty of this place. Here is just a few pics of it. First of all it is the most peaceful and quiet place. It looks like it’s not even real at all. The weather was just perfect and sunny. I would advise you to wear enclosed shoes and have some water on you if you decide to hike around. There are wildlife out here like snakes etc so be careful of the holes in the ground. Also make sure you have enough gas in the tank Because it’s a long way to a gas station and cell service might not be the best out there.

This is one of my favorite parks in NV. This place is very unique, gorgeous, and different, with amazing rock formations and colors. On top of that, the hikes are nice and short and you can get easily achieve them in a day. I always pack a picnic basket with me to enjoy after a few hikes. Many picnic areas within the park. If you are lucky you will run into mountain goats. The visitors are fun to explore. They do have a water station you can refill your bottle. If you are not a fan of hiking then do the scenic drive. Also, the night skies here are awesome, especially on the full moon evening. You can get an annual state pass for $80 or else $10 for a day pass.

This place was amazing. My recommendation is to come early. The park is huge and you won’t want to rush the experience, you could be there all day and still not see it all. Overnight camping is permitted and there are plenty of day use areas perfect for a day long getaway! Make sure to look for Sheep as they are all over the park. Located only a short drive from Vegas, this is a must see!

Beautiful, breathtaking and worth seeing! Rent a car if you can. It’s better than buying tours because you control how long you spend there and where to take pictures. We got to see the mountain goats in their glory walking up and the down the mountains. Pictures don’t do this place justice, you have to see it to believe it. The weather at the different altitude was amazing too.

Exceeded my expectations for a state park. A couple of very nice hikes with beautiful views, a good visitor center with professional and friendly staff (yes, a junior ranger program is available 🙂 ), well marked parking lots, landmarks, and trails. Definitely worth a visit if you are visiting Las Vegas and need a change. Just a 50 minute drive. Easy orientation, west-east is the main road with the Visitor Center in the middle and a road to the north. S great experience.

Such an incredible cave. I went on the long tour (90 minutes) Grand Palace tour. Lots of amazing, very rare formations. Tour guide (Mark) was very informative and fun and answered all our questions. We were able to take pictures. The cave was lit but nice to bring a flash light for specific things you want to see. Totally worth the price. I would love to go again in the future. The long tour is worth it, you get to see more rooms. Way more impressive than Timpanogos cave.

Ranger Kelsey was our tour guide for the grand palace tour for 1.5 hours. Well worth the time and money $15/pp. We booked online about 6 weeks in advance. You need to arrive 15min before departing. The views and history are amazing. We took lots of photos! You cannot bring backpacks, water, food etc into the cave. Bring a sweater as it was cool about 10C. This is a manicured cave with lights and your guide will help you and warn you about tight spaces. There are handrails and some very narrow spots. If you are claustrophobic, this is not the tour for you. It is also dark but opens into spaces where you’re standing and not crouching. Runners or closed toe shoes only. It’s slippery as humidity is 95-98%.

We visited this cave in July 2022. This is a very neat cave. It was a burial place for the native Americans many, many decades ago. So when you go in the first part of the cave, you are asked to be quite as a way to show respect for those who were buried there. The formations inside the cave a wonderful. They paved the paths some 50 years ago because there was and is today a place where water gets in the cave. They didn’t want to have people walk on muddy ground so they took action. The tour we took was about half a mile long and was done in about 1 hour. We visited many rooms which they gave names to them. Sad to see some people broke some of the formations. Hopefully they can grow again but as we were told, some of the formations took them more than 100 years to be where they are now. Good thing is that there were only a few that were broken. But for the most part, they are all in good shape and care. It was worth the visit to learn its history as well. If you visit the Great Basin National Park, come visit this place.

Very beautiful cave well worth the 90 min tour. Some tight passages in between rooms makes it fun for all ages.Reserve tickets in advance or you won’tbe able to go in. I did mine a month before 10/9.Ranger Mary was a great guide and passionate about caves!The gift shop and restaurant are very good

I highly recommend this place. All the positive praising adjectives of stunning rock Formations inside the caves that I had in my mind were already wrote most of the commentors here. Kudos to our calm, knowledgeable lady tour guide for asking me to hold the flashlight and be the last person in line which turned out a good opportunity to took good photos.

The visuals in the area are fabulous. Several areas to view from a handful perspectives. The dam itself is impressive. Even more so when you really dig into the engineering.

A must see! The tour is great! We loved it and the guide was very knowledgeable. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. Even in the dead of summer, it was hot but manageable. We all like the heat though so it doesn’t bother us. Not for the claustrophobic.

So beautiful! Very cool experience to see. The views are amazing of the Dam and Lake Mead. Part of the dam was closed so we went on the shorter tour but it was still very fun. The tour guide and staff were nice. We watched a 10 min documentary and then got on elevator that went down so many stories. It was hot but definitely worth it. Drink plenty of water!! Mask are still required right now. I suggest when done at the Dam to got to southwest diner (16 min away) very good. Overall great place!!!!!

It was very pretty and the views are great. We didn’t do any tours or anything but I’m sure that would be fun. However just know if you go in the summer it is insanely hot.

I did this tour about 10 years ago and did it again recently with my son. Good both times. Definitely go for the longer option which takes you all the way inside the dam. Our guide this time was great – lots of knowledge and a fun personality. Incredible structure and engineering.
