Service was good. The seafood gumbo was good. Everything else had no seasoning on it. The oysters were undercooked and soggy with no seasoning whatsoever. The catfish was soggy in the middle and needed seasoning badly. I actually liked that they brought the ranch dressing out in a squeeze bottle so you can add the amount you need yourself.
They came highly recommended and we were very excited about trying them out. However we walked away very disappointed.By Tracy Prescott (a year ago)I was in town and my go to Mud Bugs was closed. I decided to try this place. The fried okra was delicious. The shrimp and fish were overcooked – fried hard. The seafood didn’t have much flavor. Looked great, but did not live up to the hype.By debra t (a year ago)I love the one in Daphne. This was my first time here. Stellar service and I almost thing the food was better than the other location, (if that’s even possible!) It was great.By Faith Waters (11 months ago)This place is really good. It reminded me of being back in the MS coast. I would recommend going here if you have a taste for seafood and are in the area. The seasoning isn’t the same as the coast though.By michael white (7 months ago)I love this restaurant. Nice lunch specials that are affordable. Wait staff friendly. Always ready to give food suggestions.Great Ice Tea and Seafood. Key lime pie is excellent. Highly recommend.
Below is the lunch special Fried fish and Shrimp. Thanks to PEYTON, who kept our glasses full. 01/05/2023By Miss Macy (a month ago)

Excellent food, great service!
Cait working reception at the nearby Marriott said it was the best seafood place in town. Her Uncle Billy took her there when she enlisted in the Air Force. (Billy lives next to owner.). Good job, Billy!
Reasonable prices for a bottle of wine. Gave us a few extra oysters because they were smaller. Excellent briny taste. Super wonderful shrimp and crab dip. Yup, that a picture of the bowl scraped clean. Good roux for the gumbo with shrimp and crawfish tails in every bite. Good bisque. Excellent seafood pasta – protein in every bite. Blackened Fish (snapper) with shrimp and crab was good, but I would try something with sauce next time.By William Eberhardt (3 months ago)Dakota was my server, and he was terrific! He was able to make recommendations, and they were delicious. He even took something back and gave me a new order, even though it was my mistake. The manager came by and visited our table (she did rounds at everyone’s table). It was a great atmosphere. The bathrooms were clean, and I would love to visit again.By LeTerrica Gibbs (2 months ago)Loved the oysters on the half shell, six is not enough😘. Also tried the oyster po’ boy and found the oysters in this sandwich to be moist and tender. The crab cakes were good but small in size. Would definitely like to try this place again in the future.By KC COLE (6 months ago)Rig went down for Mx and while we waited for the MEL deferral they posted us up in hotel city. A quick arc around the block landed us at the bar with Nick and Zak and they did not disappoint. A healthy selection of flame broiled oysters and a top notch old fashioned got me started. Followed it up with the seafood pasta, did a go around for a 2nd look at the cocktail menu, and left the place a very happy pilot. Strong work gentlemen!By Hungry Thirsty Pilot (6 months ago)This was my first time visiting Half Shell in Mobile, Al and the food was good. I am not a fan of wide varieties of seafood so I normally order shrimp. They brought it out very quickly. The server was very attentive and nice. We ordered the sautéed Crab claws and the voodoo chicken bites for appetizers.By A W (4 months ago)

No wait time, my waiter was one of the best I have had in awhile. My waitress was very professional and polite. They really appreciate veterans too, before I forget if you have the little ones with you. I can say from the look on my son’s face, he loved his food.
We went on a Tuesday night and had a 30 minute wait. That is usually a good sign of a quality restaurant. We took some co-workers from out of town to a local institution. The fried platter was lightly battered and very tasty. The scallops and oysters on the platter were huge. The snapper fillet was a little overcooked but still tasty. Would go back when entertaining tourists to the area.
Came for lunch on a blazing hot Saturday and it was pretty warm inside the establishment.
We started with a tall modelo and the chargrilled oyster sampler. Had to pick several shards of shell from my mouth. Too much toppings on the oysters for my taste. Once you got some of the topping off you could tell the oysters were very fresh and really good size.
The wife and I split the fried J.O. Platter. It was a very large portion. Everything was really well cooked. I thought the scallops were great and the wife enjoyed the shrimp but we both agreed the white fish fillet was the best part of the plate, The hush puppies and okra was good as well as the dirty rice. The weak spot was the stuffed crab, no crab taste just wet stuffing in a shell.
April took amazing care of us! Made some awesome recommendations. Food came out in good pace, fresh and hot! Also had dessert! Well worth the stop!
I’ve been in Alabama 2 weeks now, tried a couple oyster spots but let me tell you something about Wintzells, finally what we were looking for on some fish fried food and oysters!! ! And the sides are a great selection! Menu is unbelievable, this one is a must come back to and try another dish!!!! 10/10 COME HERE ASAP!!!
