The Beyond Monet Exhibit took me back to my time in France.. particularly Paris. The main exhibition area was round with a gazebo constructed in the centre which was a nice touch. The set up was very unique, with a carousel feel to it. The show featured Monet’s work from his entire career and used his quotes (superimposed into the artwork) that told his story beautifully.
I visited during the summer of 2021 and had hoped that the Beyond Monet curators would have guidelines for social distancing like the Immersive Van Gogh show did. I would have also liked a few more seating options as I visited with my mom who has mobility issues. The stationary benches and gazebo steps were too low for her to sit down into and get up from without assistance.
The gallery leading up to the main show was lovely with delicate hangings and Monet’s famous bridge in the his garden at Giverny. The quotes and informational panels were a wonderful lead up to an incredible show.By Shirley Sequeira (11 months ago)I like how they position you into the paintings. And use technology to make motions. I was hoping a little more introduction of Monet himself, including the impact of Camila’s death. Not enough display of light movement though which Monet spent his entire life try to capture. But overall, very unique experience.By Leee Fong (9 months ago)I went for a yoga class in the immersive exhibition on New Year’s Day and it was a beautiful way to welcome 2022! The space is large and it was a relatively small group so we had ample room to spread out.I really enjoyed seeing some of Monet’s most famous works from a new perspective and loved the way the art surrounded us both on the walls and ceiling.
While I really enjoyed the class and exhibit and I was incredibly happy to catch this before more restrictions were put in place, I will admit that I prefer the space at 1 Yonge Street to the Convention Center for these immersive shows. But I would recommend this nonetheless.
By Cheryl (11 months ago)Absolutely loved this, and also really appreciated the initial room that gives you some of the history of Monet which allows you to see the story in his images when you get into the second room. I loved the pavilion in the immersive room. Here’s the thing though, if you love looking at paintings in a gallery, sitting and staring at them for a long time, this is not that! This is a different kind of art, taking his work and making it come to life on the screens. It is meant to be enjoyed, walk around, see it from different angles, listen to the music, etc.By Lesley Riedstra (a year ago)When life gives you lemons, make lemonade! From humble beginnings, French artist Claude Monet led an exhibition of rejects in the 1800s that was belittled by critics as “impressionist.” Monet’s art was rejected from Paris’ Grand Salon exhibition yet Impressionism came to define his revolutionary art style that gave rise & expression to natural beauties around us.Beyond Monet is an immersive experience that delves into the famous artist’s works. Monet’s serene Water Lilies are his best known works, painted within his personal Asian-influenced water garden. He didn’t consider himself a great painter but just one who expresses what he feels about nature. An entry exhibit explores this theme and revelation of the magic dwelling in his pond beneath the garden’s Japanese bridge.
Just like the bridge in his garden, Monet was a bridge between classical & modern arts. A short stroll through a glimmering hall led to the captivating Infinity Room. Over 400 pieces of Monet’s artworks were projected onto the 50,000 sq ft exhibit space for the immersive gallery experience. Travelling through his paint colours gave insight to Monet’s mind as an explorer of light & atmosphere across Europe.
Famous canvases stitched seamlessly including the Woman with a Parosol, Impression Sunrise, Twilight in Venice, as well as the House of Parliament and Haystacks series in changing colours, lightings and seasons. The final highlights were the Water Lilies, to which Monet dedicated the final 30 years of his life. His mastery of painting water immersed us in a whirlpool of light and impression.
The immersive experience is about 45 minutes in length and we made sure to take in the full panoramic visual in the Infinity Room. This was an excellent exhibit for a new generation of art seekers.
