Not the most beautiful beach, but we love it here.
Because it’s so convenient to be able to drive and park on the beach. So bring your tent, cooler, drinks, chairs, grill, foods, water sports equipments…everything, and it’s free.
It wasn’t crowded, we had so much fun. It was so relaxing.
By jet z (3 months ago)So we had a fairly good day at the beach. The areas we’ve been to in the past used to be littered and dirty. Trash cans knocked over and broken glass in the sand. We gave it another chance off reading updated reviews. The shore line (at least where we were) was surprisingly clean. No broken glass and trash cans knocked over. There were six or seven other parties on the shore near us with kids so it worked out great. It was a bright and hot day but we came prepared for the sun and weather. We didn’t see lifeguard near by us but we kept watch or went out with the kiddos when they did. Most of the day was building sand castles and enjoying the open air. There’s ample beach parking, public toilets, and clean sand and surroundings. To avoid crowds and traffic on Galveston Island, don’t come here during major holidays or spring break!By John C. We got there around 10:30 on a busy Memorial Day and still managed to find a great parking spot. People were grilling out and overall it was pretty chill. We visited on a Friday, it was not crowded at all. Very clean minus the stray plastic here and there. Parking is $15/car but it is all day and you can come and go and very convenient. If you rent an umbrella and chairs you can have food delivered to your chair, but you can bring your own chairs, blankets, coolers, etc. Alcohol is allowed on this beach unlike most of Galveston. The beaches are mostly clear of seaweed too. Only downside is that I haven’t spotted any toilets or porta-potties.By Ashley Canny (6 months ago)Porretto beach is the only privately-owned NWA h in Galveston. Parking is $15 and includes in/out privileges. Parking is VERY close to the beach. Umbrellas/chairs are for rent and run $45-50. The private beach is well-maintained, the staff are friendly and it isn’t crowded. They’ve added food delivery to your chair. Love it. We have rented chairs and umbrellas from him every day of our trip! I think this has got to be the best spot right at the Pleasure Pier! The beach is nice and not busy but lack any services like restrooms, showers, or changing rooms. Discovered this beach in May of 2022 and will continue to come here! This end of Galveston is very nice… somewhat secluded from the crowded spots on the seawall. Bathrooms are fairly clean considering the sand and water that could be in there. The beach chair/umbrella service is great, they also have food chair service, which is definitely a plus!By Nadia Thompson (3 months ago)Not too crowded. I’m only giving it 4 stars cause the path from the car park to the beach could be better maintained on the sides. We had a great time! It was clean and not to crowded. The weather was chilly so we couldn’t go deep into the water (because the water was cold). The sand was soft and not too many shells or seaweed to walk over. The kids loved jumping waves and building a nice sand castle. The sea wall is a must see if you visit Galveston Island. It’s covered in restaurants shops parks and hotels. There’s more than enough to do and see. The people are awesome and the beach is almost always full and water is almost always warm. There are life guards during summer and events to keep people safe and the beach is always kept clean. Fishing is aloud of the jetties as well. There’s an amphibious tour ride and plenty of places to rent bikes and scooters. There’s also Pleasure Pier. One of the islands awesome attraction with a roller coaster that goes over 100 miles per hour. You gotta try this place out. You can’t visit the island without a trip to the Seawall.
The best part of this beach is that there is basically no one here in the mornings during the week! It was a perfect place to walk. There is basically nothing for shelling, most of the shells are broken up because of the rough surf. The views are lovely. Swimming is strongly discouraged due to riptides. There are bathrooms every so often, lots of parking!
We walked the beach and picked up seashells, watched the seagulls finding bits of food, paid a couple dollars to go out on a pier to take pictures. The sand is soft and fine. It gets churned up in the water and makes it cloudy… but its not unpleasant. More seashells than I have ever seen on a beach and I have been all over Hawaii, California, and Florida. They are fairly small, but there were a large variety of sand dollars, shells and coral to be found. We arrived at 10am on a Sunday and parked right on the seawall. Took a minute to figure out the parking app but it wasn’t expensive($4 for 2 hours I believe). But overall a great impromptu trip with my daughter to let her see the ocean. If we had small kids I would definitely bring a beach wagon and chairs to set up a place for our family to gather and to carry our gear/kids. We will be back!
I am so happy. This beach is beautiful. The sand is like powder and not gritty. The water isn’t so cold it shocks the system. There are chair/umbrella rentals for reasonable prices. Our fellow beach goers were courteous – not rudely playing loud music, placing their beach paraphernalia in front of us. It is a nice relaxing place to enjoy. Highly recommend.
I was iffy about coming here at first with the kids due to past reviews but honestly it’s a beach I would highly recommend! We found a good amount of shells and the trash was at a minimum. Parking was easy and the beach attendant with the umbrellas/chairs was super helpful. Perfect stretch of beach to lounge, play in the water, fish, or shell hunt!
