5 Replies to Hayling Island’s Best Kept Secrets: The Top 12 Beaches

  1. A beautiful day out even if it was windy and very chilly! Our visit was in winter and while not busy busy there where quite a few people out. I am not sure if dog are allowed on the beach in summer but they are in winter as we and others enjoyed a walk along the sea with our furry friends. There is a path at the top for when the tide is in, I can imagine this beach would be even more beautiful and busy in the summer. Parking lot had toilet facilities.

  2. My favourite beach for Sandcastle building…. Nice gradual slope, so safe for paddling and swimming.

Cafe serves better coffee then most seaside offerings

Car park is a day fee, but it’s reasonable and you can book in advance which is great on a sunny bank holiday.

Dog friendly overall, but observe the areas that say no dogs (varies according to time of year).

There are decent toilet facilities available and outdoor showers to get the sand off before you head home.

  3. Great beach, decent available parking with security patrols and automated ANPR to allow you straight into the beach.
It really doesn’t matter where you park here there are facilities only a few steps away wherever you end up.
On site cafe, ice creams, shop etc.
The lifeguards are really helpful and are always out patrolling the beach and giving updates and safety announcements.
The beach can get quite busy on occasion and it may start to get a little invasive when people pitch down directly beside you when there’s an entire beach, but, not much you can do about it.
The scenery is great, the beach is shallow for a long way out and is pretty friendly for kids when the tide is in. Stay between the safety flags and take normal safety precautions and with the lifeguards on hand it should be fine.
A short walk around to the sailing club there is a good crabbing pool, some smoked bacon in a trap and you’ll almost always pull something in. Great fun for the kids.
    My wife’s favourite beach.

  4. Lovely beach and its so good you have a parking space because you pay for it. It’s good you can reserve parking and turn up when you like. I would give the beach 5 stars.

However I only gave 4 because we went to get fish and chips yesterday after queuing up for an hour to get them. We was told they had no fish it had all been sold. We was starving hungry. Also being on a beach you would think they would have loads of fish as it’s a very popular dish. They was sold out by 2:30pm.

  5. Beautiful clean stretch of beach, soft sand, lovely cafe, good facilities. Its shallow water is great for kids and the East head is dog friendly. This is the jewel in the crown of Sussex. You must book parking in advance. I love it here.

To be honest the main reason for the five stars is the amazing work the staff and manager seemed to be doing whilst we were there – this place is clearly popular and they were running around trying their best to deliver the best service. A regular even got a bit angry at the bar at having to wait so long, the Manager dealt with it really professionally and even had a chat with the barman afterwards asking him to not take it personally and how he’s usually a nice guy!

The food was good, the wait was long and there was confusion about not being able to eat food outside (which seems to have a huge problem with little flies!), but overall we couldn’t complain.

It appears to be so popular that it’s bookings only so I’d recommend doing this before just turning up! I think we were lucky in being able to eat at all!

We had an amazing meal here yesterday for my birthday. Elliott gave us great service and even surprised me with putting a candle in my pudding. Views are lovely of the sea, so relaxing.

Nice place with a lovely view towards the beach. A good amount of drinks choice, food was delicious even though it took a while to be served, but I would say this is because they were understaffed for a Thursday lunch. Nonetheless would definitely visit again.

We had to wait 40 mins for our food as it was a Sunday the sun was out & the beach was packed & the pub was busy but it was well worth the wait, the steak & Guinness pie was packed with meat & so soft I would highly recommend ordering it & the rest of my family thoroughly enjoy their meals too

The staff were very friendly, quality of food to price asked ratio was about spot on. Avoid the coffee, their flat white was insipid…tasted like hot water with a splash of milk added.

I went yesterday for the first time ever, the beach was clean and quiet, I had a very nice time with my boyfriend, I went to have a romantic dinner sitting by the beach with pizza and wine. Perfect plan and great views

Sunday morning to early evening 🥰 So peaceful, So beautiful views, we walked along the harbour. Amazing blue sky. The breeze and light winds was warm.

Big carpark (but pay and display! Only noticed when coming back to the car!). Pebbly, windswept beach. Free, reasonably clean toilets!👍) Other than that not much else. UK Channel seaside resorts have a certain, faded, charm, and this place is no exception. Good stroll along the beach, blowing the cobwebs away. After more than an hour I wouldn’t know what to do from here (although there may, of course, be other attractions nearby. We didn’t check).

Nice, long, stony beach with loads of parking and loads of space on the actual beach which was quite clean. There is a little cafe and public toilets in the car park- I didn’t use them, but great that they are there and available. We visited on a very hot day and were able to find parking (which you pay for via cash or the RingGo app) and the beach itself was not crammed full of people.

Kids enjoyed playing in the water and having an ice cream. Plenty of parking and reasonably priced.

We came here in a late afternoon in early September. It is quite and the view is good. There are plenty parking along the street. If you visit Portsmouth, the beach is worth seeing.

If you want to bare all, this is the beach, to strip off and go nakie, very peaceful and quiet, with just the hum of motor boats in the distance, parking a stone throws away, a van selling hot drinks and foccasia breakfast bread as you step on the beach further up, a Co Op store near by if you want to buy a pack lunch for the beach, very invigorating to swim nakie and achieve an all over tan in a peaceful setting, remember we were born naked, enjoy the freedom with out being judged

Very nice pebbly beach. This part of the beach is dog friendly all the year. Not busy at all. Cafe on the way. Its better to be prepare with some shoes as pebbles can hurt your feet

A lovely pebbly beach, fairly quiet and dog friendly. There is parking on the roadside and carparks nearby.
A short walk up the beach and you can find a cafe and even further leads you up to Southsea peer and a but more bustle, with a big park, model village and arcades.
We had a lovely walk on the beach sifting through pebbles to find tiny shells, kept the kids busy for ages. People are very friendly here too.

Beautiful beach in Portsmouth, but but the beach is a short distance from the station, and there are not many shops nearby, the beach hurts your foot so plan to bring back slippers

Such a beautiful beach.. large enough for loads of people. Love watching the sunset! Shame parking payments are going up each time I visit though!

It’s a lovely place for a dog walk and on this bright but chilly Sunday it seemed to be dog heaven! Not sure if this is a usual thing as it was my first time visiting. It was wonderful to go to this end of the beach and be surrounded by loads of dogs. There are dunes, a sandy beach, a pebble beach and a path by the marsh.

I really enjoyed the day but had to knock off a star for the price, it’s £4 to park a car whether you’re coming for a 30 minute walk or spending the whole day and I just think it’s unnecessarily high.

The amount of parking available is huge, they could easily have turned over £8,000 today with the amount of cars coming in and out. Lower your price so I can visit more regularly please!

Our first day trip out in our new to us Motorhome, EriK, it was late March so very windy and cool but beautiful typical English weather!
Need to come back again during the summer…, No overnight, private estate so pay parking until 6pm – maybe the summer they might have long opening hours!
Sandy beach, great for families with a refreshments and toilets not far in the carpark along with a restaurant!

Well named as this area forms a link between the East Head sand dunes and the main beach at West Wittering. Each year coastal erosion reduces further the link and has carried away some of the breakwaters and bushes.
