Beautiful view, lovely atmosphere, and it is very close to Bristol. You can take X5,X6 and X7 to there. There are lots of Ice-cream shops, restaurant. Plenty of seating close by for your picnics. Park area close by for the kids to play. Beautiful walks along the sea front and the sunsets here are amazing if you are still here at the end of the day to enjoy them. Just a short walk further on to a lovely pier. Beaches fairly muddy at low tide, more sandy near prom with ridges of rocks heading out into the Bristol Channel. Promenade, kiosks, one small amusement arcade and fabulous pier. Can get muddy due to it being a tidal river estuary, so care needed with children and families. It’s worth avoiding in winter if high tide as river Mud can be extremely dangerous and definitely not for walking on. On plus side, a lovely Victorian pier has been carefully restored, with beautiful views on a clear day over to Wales and lundy Island. Lovely site close to Newport. Site wardens really helpful. Adjacent to Tredegar House which is well worth a visit and some great grounds to walk around. Lovely time I. Newport too, our visit to the cathedral was great. Part of the arrangement is that local people are allowed to walk throughout part of the parkland free of charge. However, the car park is chargeable, although NT members can use their membership card to get free parking.
It was originally owned by the Morgan family, who amassed a huge fortune from various activities; and various parts of the building go back over 400 years. It’s been redeveloped a number of times, and it’s interesting to see how the styles changed.
Some allowance has been made for those who are less able, and the ground floor is well worth the effort. But the stairs make upper floors inaccessible.
In some of the rooms, there are items that were personal property of various family members. These are well worth investigating. There are also some specialist furniture, and numerous paintings that you should enjoy.
Unfortunately, they have had a few issues with some damage to the roof, and water leaks. As a result, some areas were out of bounds on the day I went, and it looks likely to remain that way for a while.
The grounds are very attractive and well worth the visit. A number of groups also use the grounds to provide facilities for the members of society that have difficulties within their lives. The grounds are very popular with dog owners that bring their furry friends.
There is a nice little cafe, and some really interesting little artisan workshops. Overall, a really great spot to visit.

We found the wardens friendly and helpful. The massive park next door is brilliant if you have a dog to exercise or you fancy a run yourself. All the pitches were tidy and roomy. Being so close and surrounded by 3 main roads and the main Bristol to Swansea rail line there is some noise, so if you are a light sleeper you may not enjoy it here. Luckily I can sleep through a storm so no issues for me. Tredegar house is next door and worth a visit and I have never seen so many dogs in my life. Its handy for Newport or Cardiff and the valley’s. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the site was clean and tidy. Lovely open space on the western edge of Newport. Great place for dogs, kids and family gatherings. Went to the skate park for the first time as my little one is getting braver on her scooter. Was very pleased to see the quality of the place. Kids playground is really popular and has a zip line for the adventurous types. It’s clean and always well maintained by Newport council. Parking is reasonable at £1 for 2 hours. I love the little shops, and the food in the cafe always smells amazing (can’t comment on taste as we always picnic).
Toilets on site, don’t remember seeing any baby changing though.

Picturesque little cove, lots of parking, tide was only just going out so not much space on beach – but dogs loved paddling in the pebbly shallows. In my top five beaches in Wales. It never disappoints it has lovely sandy beach, rocky outcrop with rock pools, plenty of space even if it gets busy for family fun, huge area back of East part of a beach has grassed sand dunes, barbecue’s jet skiing if your lucky to own one.
Most important of all it’s always clean no rubbish or sea debre, and it’s dog friendly and have never seen discarded dog poo on beach.
Great dog friendly beach all year round from edge of Trecco Bay holiday park to Merthyr Mar. Not the best for swimming, the best sandy bits are by the rocks when the tide is out.
It is not the most picturesque beach in Wales, but it is very nice. Firstly it is huge, so it never feels crowded, even when it is and I can’t relax when the beach is busy. There’s always plenty of space, ideal for setting up volleyball net and play, which we always do. Secondly, only 40 minutes drive from Cardiff/Cearphilly area. Some people may not like the fact that it is open for dog walking and there aren’t any toilets or shops (just a little ice-cream van) but I am not bothered.
