A very good place with lot of memories packed in the park. There is always something happening in and around the area. Parking is available near by area , paid parking. We went to the park after the bell and visitor center is closed to enjoy the very large lawn space. It is mesmerizing to watch the independence mall from the park lawn and it is wonderfully large park area. Kids can enjoy lawn and it is too within the urban area. Security should not be an issue due to importance of the area. Nighttime lights on different mall area is very good to watch and for photography. May not be suitable for family after 9 pm due to we felt the smell of green stuff. But the tour itself seemed very flatline. For the how important this square is to American history the tour guides didn’t seem to convey this. They take into two rooms. A court room and the assembly room. After the reserved tour. I would recommend experiencing the great essentials building and the capital building as well. So much history is tucked away in this historic town. Visitors can feel the fabric of American society being woven as they navigate through the relics of time. The new exhibit was stunning – the layout was easy to follow, there was so much to read and learn, and they had a good mix of audio/visual to plain reading. This is a great place to go with family. I especially enjoyed the elephants, although I am sure they regularly change their exhibits. If you go, plan on bringing extra money for drinks and food. A bottle of Aquafina was $5.35. You could also opt to bring your own water and snacks, but make sure you follow the rules. Today when we checked into the gate, we didn’t have anyone check our bags. But always follow the rules they have on their site. It took us about 3 hours to walk briskly around the Zoo. If you want to take your time, I’d give it 5 hours and plan on eating. For those with walking troubles, you can rent a scooter in advance or rent a wheel chair. There are lots of hills to plan for, so make sure you have a good pusher for the chair. It is a wooded area, but sunscreen is still a good thing to have. Most of all, have fun! Hope this helps.By Stacy Crow (5 months ago)It’s a great zoo! I love the hiking option instead of the escalator. I do wish the animal exhibits were a bit bigger and they would focus on more education around our oceans. Otherwise, they have a great amount of programs and special events that I love to attend and I’m a member of the zoo. There’s always something happening there! I like that they have selections of craft beer and they’re starting to have more food from around the world. It would be nice if 1-2 nights a week they opened later and closed later like 11-7 in the summer months, but I understand that probably throws the animals off their feeding schedules. The enclosures seem really small compared to every other zoo I’ve been too. This zoo is not accredited anymore by the AZA and that is concerning. There is a huge lack of employees which can sour the experience. I recommend using the hiking trail as opposed to using the elevator or escalator. With a little effort, you can easily push a stroller up the hill. It’s pressed down dirt and not too steep, most (healthy) people are able to do it easily. Definitely get yourself some Dip N Dots 😋 they are a must have and a family favorite. They have a few gift shops to explore and scooter rentals. They have food options and you can also bring your own lunch. The food is outrageously priced and often sits under a heat lamp all day.By Kelly B (5 months ago)I love the zoo! There is a lot of very well designed scenery/foliage sections throughout the zoo, although the enclosure decorations and foliage are often a bit lacking. Was surprised to see the relatively small size of many of the exhibits, especially for animals with roaming habits, as well as the large amount of dirty glass. There were a few main exhibits that had no animals, but this was likely due to both time of year and maintenance. This park has a big shore line with multiple beaches, bike and boat rentals, tours and sunset cruise. This is one of the best parks to visit and experience it’s natural beauty, huge trees that offer shade and oxygen, biking and walking trails along the shore lines, sand beaches and clean water. During summer weekends, the beaches will be busy with lot of people and dirty water along shore lines. I suggest going here early in the day to find the best spot but given the shore line stretches across multiple miles finding a beach spot shouldn’t be a problem. While it would be nice to have more water activities within the island, you can find them by traveling few miles outside the park. The tour was great which helped us learn about the history of the place. There is a museum to visit within the island and a tower which you can climb up top. I had a great time and will recommend going here.By Rahul K (6 months ago)This is a great spot for a day trip if you’re in NE Ohio or northern PA. There’s so much to do & see. Talk to the locals to find all the best spots. The views of Lake Erie are spectacular & of course the sunsets are beautiful. Sara’s restaurant is at the entrance of the Isle & is a great spot to get food on your way in or on your way out. There are restrooms throughout the park & from the ones I went into they were all clean. If you have time I recommend driving the entire Isle & seeing it all. You can rent bikes & there’s a path around most of the Isle that accommodates the bikes. A walking/running path is also on the Isle if you want to get a workout in. The park is very clean, there are multiple areas to relax and have picnics 🧺.
I envy the people that live here, they have a beautiful piece of nature to enjoy.
Great place to host events or just enjoy a beautiful day with family.
Added bonus: there are plenty of bikes and paddle boats to rent as well as areas you’re allowed to fish in.

Bicycle paths make it easy to navigate if you enjoy biking. Nature and wildlife are abundant. Food concession stand, bathrooms, boat/kayak rentals are all available. Also, keep your eyes open and you might find a hidden treasure from the Lake Erie Rocks group.By R Davis (6 months ago)Amazing. This is our second time here. First time was extremely windy and chilly (last April). This time was much nicer and although it wasn’t hot, it was quite a great experience. But I’m not critiquing the weather here, I’m reviewing the park.While beach 7 was recommended to us as a good family oriented beach, it was closed this time, so we chose beach 6. There weren’t a ton of people there at the time. There were enough that it wasn’t totally vacant, but the right amount for what you want when trying to be distant from others. For reference, this was early afternoon on a Wednesday.
It did get busier as the afternoon went on, but I’d never say the beach was necessarily crowded. The bathroom facility here is adequate enough. I did notice they had a changing area, but we did not use that.
There were picnic benches every so often at the top of the beach near the tree line. I really appreciated this about the area. We got to set up in front of one and still be in the sun, yet have our own spot to use for the day.
There were lifeguards on duty at beach 6 while we were there.
Overall this was a great experience and I would gladly bring the family back again.

What a beautiful place! Yes, there’s construction going on in one area but it doesn’t distract from the whole gardens. Definitely bring your walking shoes and a folding chair. You will walk a lot but it’s so worth it. Your chair is for when you sit and watch the fountain show, which is a definite must do.
The Idea Garden is beautiful and so were the dahlias that were in bloom. Beauty is everywhere and the benches are placed to sit, rest your feet, and enjoy it all.
We hit every area and enjoyed it all. My favorite was the Fountain show and different Lights show that are around the property. My only issue was not enough trash cans. We didn’t want to miss anything so we picked up drinks and a snack and kept walking around. Then we were carrying our empty containers for quite a bit before we found a trash can to dispose of it properly.
All in all….. a terrific day with beautiful night time shows to end it. Definitely a must see. If close enough, become a member!
Cool to spend a good half day here especially to see the lights at night, I haven’t been back here in forever!
The water fountain light show was great, they have it on Thursdays through Sundays at night. The Illuminated Fountain Performances start at 9:15 pm and lasted about 30-45 minutes. People put seats out to save a good spot. You can see them if you stand in the back too. I think that actually is a better view and you can see everything.
Loved the lollipop lights, those are so cool too (Light: Installations by Bruce Munro). They have a few different locations for these light installations you can check out, it’s very easy to get lost in the dark if you don’t follow the crowd. Not a lot of lights when you’re walking around in the dark so make sure you know where you’re headed!
There’s a hidden waterfall under the fountain if you walk around there. It looks pretty cool with purple lights.
Ticket prices are cheaper if you go earlier, click around different times to see if you can get a better deal. Food options are quite limited and the lines are crazy long.
Still a good experience overall and highly recommended!
The most exited place I’ve ever been this year. This Botanical garden with incredible flowers and plants were amazing experience. So many varieties of trees 🌳. So man flowers that I have never seen before. Fountain ⛲️ show also was incredible, lots of good emotions and memories from it. So if you like nature, flowers and plants come and visit. You better come here in the morning 🌄 so not to get burn under the sun. Bring hat and sun’s cream to protect yourself. Lots of pictures 📸 from here will be our good memories
We had a wonderful visit! You could spend an entire day exploring the grounds or choose shorter loops. We stayed a little over 4 hours. Most of the walking was very easy and can accommodate a stroller easily. We enjoyed a great lunch in the cafe (although pretty pricey), had great interactions with staff, and loved exploring the interior and exterior options! I felt like a large amount of time had shade available which is appreciated.
Always a fantastic visit. Have been a member for fourteen years. Well worth the price of membership. It saves a lot if you are a repeat visitor to buy a membership.
Displays and exhibits change with each season and are very well done. Staff is quite knowledgeable and eager to answer questions. Many volunteers who are also well trained and knowledgeable.
Only complaint is that the prices in the cafe have gone up significantly since the remodeling.
Food is very good in the cafe and offers lots of selections using local produce.
