If you are looking for a great beach to hang out on and walk to Haystack Rock, this is the perfect place. The beach is big and covered in clean, white sand. Even on a beautiful, sunny and warm Sunday afternoon with the parking lot full the beach does not feel crowded. We found a parking spot pretty quickly as there are a lot of people coming and going. The walk to the beach is down a short flight of stairs, maybe 15 steps. There is also a wheelchair ramp so you can wheel a wagon or stroller right down to the beach. The restrooms are very close to the beach and are clean and well maintained. As of July 2022, I saw a brown (domesticated) rabbit lingering near the bathrooms. The furry fellow seemed friendly and not threatened by humans. Perhaps it could use a good home ? ?

I was thrilled to see the beach because a scene from the movie Goonies was filmed at this beach. It was cool to me being from Texas so we were able to light a fire. It was very nice. On a whim, we drove here from Portland on 1/17/22. It was the usual misty weather in Portland but the weather as the seaside was fantastic! Parking was free & plentiful, although the public restrooms were closed, probably due to covid.
The beach was not crowded and we enjoyed strolling along the shoreline. I’ve not lived in Oregon too long (11/2020), and this was my first visit to the Oregon coast. I’ll definitely be coming back!

It was like a free up close visit to the aquarium! Allow an hour or two to walk the beach. This small beach is very nice, nice ramp down to the beach from the parking area, there are restrooms when you enter the parking area. Probably around 50 parking spots at this lot, and a short distance away are shops and eateries, within walking distance of this beach. The town itself of Oceanside is super quaint.
The TUNNEL is on the north side of this beach and can be seen from the parking area on the beach.
Tunnel Beach is great when the tide is out, so get there early. This place fills up quickly on the weekends and on Holidays. Get there before 12pm on weekdays and much earlier on the weekends and during peak season.

This leads to the area known as Tunnel Beach, you literally go through a tunnel that’s been naturally made most of the way through and it’s at least 50 yards long. It is best to go during low-tide. (May need your phone’s flashlight) Walk through to the other hidden side and see other rocks and views. Loved it. Probably one of my favorites heading north. Bathrooms are clean and stocked and easy to get to. Parking is never a nightmare. Stores that are close have friendly workers. Great beach with a long coastline for hiking! You can drive directly to the beach by car and sit in front of the ocean with all amenities. The bottom is sandy and excellent for swimming. You can drive on the sand – pay attention to posted signs. Plenty of large driftwood spaced out for bonfires. Back your vehicle in against the dunes near one and have a great day. High tide was close to the truck, but not too close. Check tide tables before going. Public restrooms are near the entrance. This is my favorite OR coast campground. I love all the basalt rocks on the shore here. There are 4 beaches, separated by rocky outcroppings. At low tide you can walk around the rocks separating the northernmost beach and it’s neighbor.
The beaches are all different; my favorite is the small Rocky Beach which is the 3rd one counting from north to south. This beach has some sand and a lot of short basalt rocks with sea stars and sea anemones and several enormous basalt rocks just beyond the shore in the water.m
On Beach 2 you can walk around a huge rock at low tide if you don’t mind wading just a bit. On the back side you are between two enormous rocks. There are many sea stars, limpets, barnacles, and sea anemones clinging to the base of those rocks.
Beach 1 is very small unless you wade across the creek which isn’t more than several inches deep, but of course the water is cold.
From the campground there is a trail through the woods to the access for beaches 1 and 2. They also have parking there. Another trail from the campground takes you to beach 3, the Rocky one. And down the entrance road a bit is a trail to beach 4, the southern most one. That beach is very wide and extends well beyond the park. Beaches 1-3 are only accessible from the park. We visit in February, usually, and none of the beaches are crowded, but there are always more than one family there.
A wonderful state park. D loop is very close to 101 so you hear a lot of the highway noise but its tucked away in the back so you don’t have too much park traffic. Nice short walk to the beach.
One of the best campsites we have ever stayed at. Very clean campsite and bathrooms. Friendly staff. The beach is breathtaking!!! Also a plus that the town is just a couple minutes away in case you have forgotten anything. We can’t wait to come back
Nice well maintained park. The staff were pleasant, the guests were pleasant, the maps they provide were helpful to show us all the trails that are around there. The beach is beautiful with nice big waves. Everyone seems to know it’s a good one. There are rarely spots available at this park. We did a random impromptu visit because we happened to notice they had a spot available! I would definitely recommend a visit. It is good to note that it is also a day use park not just a campground. So if they don’t have sites available you can still use the day use area.
Very nice state park. We came in late the day we stayed as we originally were traveling a different direction. We didn’t have a reservation and thought we’d take a chance on our way through. They were full but ended up letting us stay in one of their reserved overflow spots. Was very nice of them to let us stay.
Has great hiking trails, clean facilities, friendly/very safe, and tide pools where we got to see star fish and more. I would definitely recommend staying at this awesome state park.
