This hotel is extremely nice and I appreciate it being dog-friendly. The valet parking team was incredible, super fast and very friendly. The valet-only parking garage seemed very secure and safe. The room was extremely spacious and the bathroom had a large vanity. I didn’t love that the shower had a fabric curtain which I feel was very unsanitary.
After spending 120,000 Hilton points on two nights and being a Hilton gold member, I would have expected nicer treatment from the front desk. None of the people I interacted with were especially welcoming or friendly. I stopped by to ask for more towels and was told they’d be sent up, but that didn’t happen. I said “thanks, bye” to the two front desk associates on my way out and was completely ignored.
I received a breakfast coupon upon check-in and was disappointed to learn I could only use it in the restaurant, as apparently room service isn’t available for breakfast. I had my dog with me, and didn’t want to leave him alone in my room (nor is that allowed), so I had to forgo the complimentary breakfast.
The overall location seemed extremely safe and is right across from the water, right by tons of shops and restaurants. I would stay here again, I just wish their front desk team were friendlier.
By K R (4 months ago)A Hilton is a Hilton, if you know you know. It was pretty pricey for what we got. But our room was very roomy (likely because we were given an accessible room, though we did not need that) and it was clean. The valet service was very kind and the staff were helpful. The location was great as well, right in downtown and within walking distance to many wonderful restaurants and shops. They were also kind enough to let us keep our car parked there after we had already checked out so that we could explore the downtown area some more without worrying about where to park, etc. All in all I would recommend staying there if you’re passing through and looking for a decent downtown location.By Alicia Clark (4 months ago)This hotel is a great location and the onsite parking is a plus! The staff were incredibly helpful and kind. The valet and front desk staff in particular were amazing! The rooms were very clean but need an update. We were woken up many times by the truck and car sounds from outside the windows and we could hear people chatting in the hallway and doors slamming constantly. The soundproofing definitely needs help but everything else was wonderful!By Allison A (6 months ago)We had a one night stay. The room was clean except for mold in the bathroom. We ordered meals from the restaurant in the hotel for 2 adults and 4 children we were missing part of our meals and they were not done how we ordered them. They did bring are meals up to are room with trays for the kids to eat on We ordered when it wasn’t busy and we were the first orders for the night. The room had a great view of the harbor and we could watch a boat going by and we could see a small lighthouse.By Jessica Jordan (3 months ago)Holy cow this hotel is really good! The price wasn’t bad at all, the location is perfect, the staff is absolutely amazing though I wouldn’t put your car in valet if you have a manual transmission.
I can’t express how kind the staff is. If you’re staying in Portland, I really recommend using this hotel.By Rowan Hershberger (4 months ago)

The Press, an upscale, newspaper-themed hotel sitting in the Old Port District. First and foremost stay away from the corner rooms, every time that guest opens their door, it sounds like they’re entering your room. Second, staying at The Press Hotel will cost you some cash. I had a smaller room, but for the price I could have rented a suite at another hotel, or I could have rented an entire house. With that out of the way, let me just say, this was an incredible looking hotel. The location was phenomenal, I literally walked to 90% of what I wanted to visit. The service was excellent, the front desk was excellent and the valet attendants were excellent. I didn’t get the young ladies name, but she was super helpful in recommending breakfast restaurants. So if you’re traveling with your family and you’re pricing out hotels, know that The Press is priced like an elite hotel, in one of the world’s bigger cities.By Miscellaneous Muzik (6 months ago)My new favorite hotel in Portland! Feels like a 5 Star hotel, with a unique history and a super creative design! Very comfortable beds and clean rooms. Front desk and restaurant service was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent (we had the steel cut oatmeal and a traditional eggs, toast and potatoes plate).By Paul Hahn (7 months ago)Quality for price is poor. I think it would be 4-5 stars if the hotel was around $200 a night.
There is no automatic housekeeping service (cleaning, making the bed etc.) They have a sign in the room that claims they do it upon request if you give them a *6 hour* window. We stayed here for 3 nights at $350+/night, and only 1 of the 3 nights did we ask for our bed to be made (deliberately said no change of sheets/towels.) They asked how long we’d be gone and said they’d “try to fit us in” but with attitude as if it was an unreasonable request. We were gone from the room for 10 hours and someone came in and did the opposite of what I asked – changed the towels and did not make the bed. Unbelievable at the price point they are changing. Their excuse is it’s for environmental reasons, but their policy could just be that they clean and don’t change sheets/towels. It’s sad that they don’t want to give back to the community though hiring sufficient staff. They have no alternate options for pillows (only very thick foam pillows) and while they have a free driving service within downtown, they were not running rides the one time I asked for one around 9am as they said they were insufficiently staffed until 11am.
The location near city hall’s clock tower means you can hear the loud chimes on every hour all night long – even through a loud sound machine, it woke me up 2-3 times a night and made for a poor night’s sleep. If you must stay here, request a room facing Federal so you’re further away from the tower, but I think all rooms have at least one window facing adjacent to it. Can also hear water flushing from neighboring floors which is also loud enough to wake you up.
Breakfast at Union restaurant in the hotel is only included if you have Ambassador status, for Platinum, it’s just a continental breakfast.
The central location is the one redeeming quality.
If you stay on a day when the fluctuating pricing are reasonable, your expectations may be lower and it might be reasonable to stay here, but I personally would not pay any more for this hotel than I’d pay for a holiday inn type property until the staffing/service improves.
By Lily H (4 months ago)Loved our stay here in late January for weekend getaway. Staff were all super friendly. Decor is really fun (especially if you’re a nerd for graphic design!). I was worried about the fire station nearby but think the guest rooms face the other direction so no issues there. Coffee bar is great. Had a Bloody Mary at Union restaurant downstairs where the bartender was super friendly and gave us great local recommendations!By Caitlyn Burke (a month ago)Had drinks at the bar. The atmosphere is great. Wonderful bar staff, attentive and friendly. Did not wait to be served or cash out. Ordered four specialty drinks. They were okay. Not a slam dunk, take me to another level flavor-wise drinks. The second drink I ordered, a Side Car was awful. My daughter’s drinks (margaritas) were also just average. At $13 a drink, I will stick to beer next time. Bar staff should be given more tasty selections by a respected mixologist and given training and tests on new drinks. The staff are above par on the service piece….now give them super drinks to serve.By Fra L (a month ago)

I think this was a solid 4 star.
The location is great, walk to everything.
The lobby, and our room, were clean.
It wasn’t a stunning hotel, like a 5 star, but it certainly was not a 3 star.
Convenient self parking is located next door, or they have valet.
And the few times we ordered room service the food was solid.
I’d go back.
Room was spaceous enough. Not sure why a double double is cheaper than a king. Beds and linen were great. Plenty of sitting options and room in the closet. Mini fridge was tucked away which was nice. Water pressure and shower was amazing.
The bad: Requested specific service to clean vent and replace conditioner and body wash via the app. Had to go to desk and ask them two days after, it wasn’t done. They left the conditioner and body wash on the dresser and the vent was never cleaned. For these prices the cleanliness should be better.
We took our first trip with our newborn to Portland to have Thanksgiving with my brother and his family. We were quite apprehensive about our first adventure with the little one because of his problems sleeping. The hotel was amazing and the staff was excellent. It was some of the best service I have ever experienced, and that includes stays at the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton’s etc. My family wanted to also send a special shout out to Audie and Lucretia who helped make the stay extra special. We will be staying at this hotel every time we go to Maine from now on.
We choose this hotel for its location and affordable rates but it was bit disappointing.. we found the room very nice but we could not adjust the temperature and we were cold and they had no extra blankets. The shower was clogged and we ended up removing hair to allow the water to flow, yikes… on a good note, the dinner at the restaurant was great and the entire staff at the hotel was very pleasant.
I travel all over the world and stay at many beautiful hotels and resorts. I have no desire to ever stay at this Westin Hotel ever again. As a platinum elite member, I give this place 1 star. 1 star for my room being clean and the food not being totally terrible. Judging by the staff, they all looked miserable, and the energy and atmosphere was very uncomfortable for me. In my opinion, I can clearly see this hotel needs new management, from the top down. Hopefully The Westin corporation becomes aware of this and can fix this sad situation. I even went to the spa to relax and it was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever received at a Westin Spa. I have been in customer service for over two decades, and a graduate of an elite university and have also worked at a top TV Station, in the news department. I have worked for many amazing companies, one such company was the Walt Disney World Corporation. I understand quality and high standards. I was saddened and embarrassed for this Westin. I will be telling everyone I know, and care about, to stay far away from this hotel.
