Our FAVORITE beach!! Where should I begin, the clear water, the sea life, the sand, the surrounding… everything is spectacular! We have traveled to a LOT and my teenage kids were floored at the clarity of the water here! It’s like a swimming pool! You can everything so clear that you don’t even need a mask to see the fish and turtles! Which brings me to the turtles, make sure you go to the rocks at the right side of the beach by the Westin, every time we went we saw turtles there, no need to pay for an excursion to see them and snorkel with them. There is also a very cool little ride pool hidden in the rocks that you MUST go into. Also at this end of the beach there is a beautiful grass area under a tree with shade which is just dreamy to sit under and relax out of the sun. We don’t normally repeat things on vacation but we did visit this beach more than once – it’s repeat worthy and you should not miss it!By Tiffany Alekov (7 months ago)Beautiful Sandy beach, it does not have shade where the Sandy part, but there is trees and cover area in the far back from the beach. Get to love the sand here as it’s very soft.
Good place to go sunbathing.
Family with kids are friendly here.

Plenty of parking and white sand beach. Bring umbrellas chairs and water! Parking is $10 and entrance is $5 a person. Don’t forgot to be honest and use the kiosk. Absolutely stunning setting. Waves are incredibly! Beach and facilities are very well maintained. Ample parking. Nice lifeguards. It wasn’t busy at all we spent good two hours walking there. It’s so clean and well kept. Small beach with lots of character, people and views. Easily able to see little sea creature in the rocks. As others have stated its a little intense in the waves, especially when the tide is out. It can get rocky with a current that pulls you in. I fou d the spot much better for sunsets than the Pier in town. This is a place that is best viewed with the natural eye, no picture can do it justice, the crystal-clear water the turtles, the snorkeling all that just makes this place Magical. Great place for little ones, creates a lot of natural pools for them to enjoy and right across the street is a shaved ice stand makes this spot perfect!By Vickie Cervantes (6 months ago)I got here at around 7 in the morning and there were a moderate amount of people here. This definitely isn’t a lowkey spot, as it’s posted on many tourist sites for the big island. Make sure you get here super early to have the beach to yourself for a few minutes, and definitely come by the evening to watch a beautiful sunset on the sands. Bring your own volleyball, and there’s a net hoisted up that you can enjoy with your friends. The beach is good for boogie-boarding with the kiddies and to sit back and relax. Definitely recommend this place to anybody that wants a nice beach to sit around on! NOTE: this isn’t a huge beach, it’s pretty minuscule compared to the other beaches on island. It’s about a similar size to the Green Sands Beach at South Point.By Jeriel Nunez (8 months ago)Awesome beach when the sand is in but can be very dangerous when sand is out like it is right now. Lots of sharp rocks in the water and on shore and if you don’t get in or out fast enough, you can get bashed onto the rocks. Lifeguards on duty from 930am to 5pm daily. This beach can get crowded but it’s okay. You’ll still have fun. You’ll feel safer too, if you’re afraid to be alone in the water like my wife 😂

A great stop totally worth the $5 entry fee. Moderate-easy hike on a paved path with varied altitudes ( good amount of steps). The falls are amazing, the jungle is impressive on its own. Parking is a little sketchy but do able. Highly recommend
We loved seeing the waterfalls here. Entry is $5/per person, parking was free. If you are a resident with a state park pass, entry for your party is free. Restrooms are available by the parking lot. There is a paved walkway with handrails to take you to the main waterfall. You can take the longer, more scenic path on the right or a shortcut on the left. The scenic path is very pretty with lots of green vegetation to look at.
There are several smaller falls tucked in along the path. This place is absolutely beautiful.
Wonderful walk. Not too difficult. It is a paved trail with a lot of steps. It was weird we had to pay $5 to get in and pay for parking. Tip: just park up the road on the side and walk down. There are kiosks to pay for entry and workers standing there making sure you pay for entry into the falls. Credit card only.
Stopping to see Akaka Falls State Park is well worth the trip. The pictures don’t do it justice. Just a few steps in and there’s a feeling of awe and wonder. It was as if we were transported someplace else. The waterfalls are gorgeous as are the surrounding plants, trees, and flowing water.
You can make the loop relatively quickly but I recommend taking your time and enjoying the scenery and sounds. The path is paved and relatively easy to walk. There are some steps along the way so that’s something to consider if there are mobility concerns.
We had to pay a $5 entry fee which I thought was strange but if it helps with the maintenance of the park, it’s worth it. There’s also a parking fee but if there’s space on the road, you can park there for free and walk down.
It was our last stop for the day and I was tired so I thought the view of the waterfall from the parking lot was enough. I’m glad my friend disagreed with me. I was wrong, very wrong. Definitely explore inside.
We did the full loop (anti clockwise), beautiful walk through lush green jungle which leaves the best view (Akaka falls) for last. There is a fair bit of uphill walking to do. The falls are stunning!!! Just park on the side of the road before entering car park to save yourself the parking fee. A must see, especially if you like waterfalls!
