  1. We are in the area a few times a year on business and this has been our “go to” hotel in the past. Our last stay here was at the end of April (and I MEAN our LAST stay). At check in the desk clerk was rude (I found out later she was actually the manager). The key cards did not work and she acted like I was simply too stupid to work them. Second try one STILL did not work and the other took a lot of trying before it did. The room smelled musty and there were only 3 flat, useless pillows on the king sized bed. The desk lamp (with the charging ports) had a short in it and sparks shot out of it when I turned it on. Thankfully we were only there for one night. The clerk at checkout was much more pleasant and, when I told him about the lamp, offered a discount on the room (which I never received). Best Western has always been my preferred place to stay on trips….not anymore.

  2. I wish I had read reviews before booking this place. I travel several times a year and always stay at a Best Western Plus. Across the board it’s been a good hotel brand for my needs (updated amenities, nothing fancy, always clean). However, this did not meet the Best Western PLUS quality I’ve experienced at other locations.

Pros: the staff member upon check out was friendly. They moved me to a different room when my first had issues.

Cons: the entire hotel has a musty, dirty smell. It’s likely indicative of mildew, or mold. In good conscience I couldn’t recommend staying here if you have breathing problems. The staff upon check in were rather short/rude, but no big deal. The entire building is outdated and feels more like a “motel” than a “hotel”. The first room has a hole in the wall by the door, had flickering lights, and smelled bad. I asked to be changed to a different room. The second room still smelled awful, and in this one the toilet didn’t flush.

This place is not worth the price or the Best Western PLUS branding. There are plenty of other options in the area for similar pricing that will actually meet the expectations for the price range.

  3. My stay was great. Rooms was clean. The breakfast was fantastic. Tammy was the cook. Tammy kept everything clean and was very polite and brighten your day. I would most definitely come back just to eat the wonderful breakfast that Tammy cooked. Tammy deserves a 10+

  4. I love Best Western in Cary. I always stay here when i visit my family. Ms. Tonia took care of me even when the system went down. And gave me a gift bag with water and snacks. The breakfast OMG. I’m a big foodie and the breakfast and coffee were delicious. I’ll always come to Best Western. And the prices are very reasonable in today’s crazy inflation market.

  5. Check in was fast and friendly and young man on front desk was very personable.
Pet friendly room was very clean and had no odors from previous furry guests.
Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. Additionally Tammy, who was keeping the area stocked and spotless, was very pleasant.
Upon checkout, Keysha P sent us on our way with a friendly chat, a beautiful smile, and kind wishes.
All in all, this was a very good choice for our stay.

My first impression of this hotel was the warm welcome by Marcia at the front desk. She even called our room a little after check-in to make sure we had everything we needed. We did! Comfortable bed and spotlessly clean room. The breakfast had a very nice assortment of warm foods, breads and cereals, fruit and yogurt and GOOD coffee! Jessica was pleasant and kept everything stocked and clean. Although this is an older hotel, it was nicely updated, clean, comfortable and convenient. I would definitely stay here again.

I should have gone another 15 minutes up the road. This hotel cost me $40 more and the rooms were no better. The breakfast was only substandard. No real butter. Only choice for eggs is powdered. Only pork sausage. No cream. 15 minutes up the road, on Saturday breakfast, they have quiche, and omelettes, choice of protein, turkey AND pork.

This is a very nice hotel. It’s a little older but is well maintained and is clean. The breakfast bar is wonderful. It is very convenient to I26 and to Hendersonville. There is plenty of parking with easy access to the rooms. There is also a Mexican restaurant on site as well.

Rooms were clean. The continental breakfast was nice. The mexican restaurant inside was good. The pool was relaxing except for difficulty getting in and out. There are no stairs just two, two rung ladders which aren’t compatible with someone with a bad knee. Other than that, our stay was nice.

The staff were very friendly and professional, which we greatly appreciated. The hotel and grounds were well maintained. Our room was clean and in very good condition as well. We truly enjoyed our stay – thank you very much!

This was our fourth stay at the Best Western Smithfield Inn. And once again we were NOT disappointed. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was most knowledgeable and very friendly as usual. The complimentary breakfast was tasty and included hot and cold offerings. The breakfast area was very clean and the staff person in the breakfast area was friendly and engaging. I highly recommend this hotel. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

I stayed here last night with my husband and 2 daughters and we were very satisfied with everything. The room and bathroom were spotless and the whole place was in top shape. Breakfast was great and the staff very courteous! Perfect spot right off 95 and it’s a keeper for us the next time we drive through the area.

I really enjoyed my stay. The staff was kind (Chris was particularly awesome) and the cleaning staff were also very kind. I was having issues with my card at some point and a person cleaning the rooms helped me while I got my card key covered. I tried to give her a tip for her service but she wouldn’t take it. It is about 30 to 40 minutes away from Raleigh, BUT there are still plenty of eateries and cinema nearby. I also enjoyed the hot breakfast AND whatever little towel creature this is! (Yoda perhaps?) So cute! Overall, I would come back here.

My husband & I stayed here twice–up & back on our trip to Pennsylvania from Florida. Check in & out was easy both times. The staff is friendly, helpful & accommodating. The entire hotel was clean, including our rooms & the breakfast area. Everything was in working order. Highly recommend this Best Western!

We stopped here for the night in our way to Florida and then again going back home. It was a good experience because the hotel is new, in a new area, the room was big with two beds and so much room around, same for the bathroom. I need to say the place is really in good conditions. This was the first time for us in a Beat Western. Prices are on average, we paid less the first night, something around 40$ cheaper than the second night 19 days later. Staff is friendly. Lots of restaurants in the area and the Carolina premium outlet is less than 5 minutes far by car.

You can’t really beat the location of this place. Me and my wife were happy with how friendly the staff were and the complimentary breakfast was pretty good. The hotel may need some updating here and there but it’s clean and quiet. The room was fairly small but we didn’t spend a lot of time in the room. The bed was comfortable and it had a small fridge and microwave which was nice. Overall satisfied.

Rooms are a little dated, but clean and the hotel is obviously working to renovate update. The manager, Shannon, and all of her staff were wonderful. Friendly, helpful, on the ball, best hotel experience that I have had in a while and more than I was expecting from a small town with few hotel options. I would recommend a stay here anytime. Reasonable price, pet, and kid friendly!

One of the best hotel’s I’ve ever stayed in! Very beautiful grounds and interior. Very nice rooms and huge nice pool. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Especially Roni and Shannon and a young lady I didn’t see her name tag but they were all friendly. If I am ever in Banner Elk again, I will definitely stay here. The Breakfast was amazing as well!

I spent a 10-night stay here, and it was perfect!! Couldn’t fault a single aspect about the stay; the room was great, the staff were very attentive to my needs, breakfast was lovely, the fitness centre was always clean. Every interaction, and member of staff–from top to bottom–was honestly, faultless!! Thank you for a great stay!

Small town hotel but well managed. It is a little outdated and with it being conveniently located for skiing hobbyists, shows it’s wear and tear.
The double beds are a little small for 2 adults to share comfortably – so make sure you keep that in mind when booking.
Hot water was really hot AC worked with out any issues. So plus points on that.
Front desk staff is wonderful and goes out of the way to provide service; Lily and Kaitlin did an excellent job in accommodating a couple we saw were without rooms on Thanksgiving night- so plus points to them.
Hotel is very convent located close to the resorts and also isolated enough for a vacation feel.

Book ground floor river view rooms! Hotel built a mini promenade along the river shore. The view is amazing. With a ground floor river view room, you can effortlessly and immediately step out of your room and be on the promenade. We had fun here. River flow. Fire place. Rocking chairs. Comfortable benches. Blossoming flowers. Wonderful experience. In July with this humidity, everything in the room was a bit dump/wet. But who cares? Nothing can beat this view!

My husband and I made a single night stop here on our way back home and enjoyed some respite. Was treated by very pleasant staff and was grateful for the respectable travelers we encountered. The view was what attracted us to this spot and it certainly did not disappoint. However, I was pretty disappointed with the cleanliness considering the price point. The decor was a little dated, but nice enough and the bed was clean so we slept comfortably. When we entered the room, we were immediately hit with mildew smells and found the AC had been off. I understand it’s right on the river and humidity is a factor they can’t control, but “Mildew 101” is something everyone in the south should understand- you never let moist air stagnate! And so my biggest complaint was the lack of proper AC. Needs updating ASAP, at least in room 211. We tried leaving the air on for a few hours hoping it would help, to no avail. Having also spent my life in the south, I can imagine all soft surfaces will need to be deeply shampooed or replaced in order to remedy the mold and mildew issue. Overall, we enjoyed the stay and the balcony, but for the price we paid, I expected more.

Positive I reserved a room with a balcony, but was told upon arrival after a 5 hour drive, nope. It is literally the only reason to stay here. Every other room is the exact same as any other mid-tier hotel anywhere. Nothing special at a greater cost. Oh well,,, live an learn.

However, if you are looking for a mid-tier cookie cutter room, the room itself was adequate for what it was. It was clean, and it had the normal stuff in the room. Bring your own soap however, the body wash in the shower is not my cup of tea. Maybe it will work for you.

We have been staying here for years and it’s always been great. Very clean and modern, and spectacular river views. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Having breakfast in the rocking chairs on the patio by the river is enough to keep me coming back year after year. Can be a little pricey, but if you look around and join their reward program there are good deals.

This is our second stay and we’ve enjoyed both stays. The service, outdoor amenities, and the river view are all outstanding. The four stars for the rooms are because they’re just pretty standard. The beds were good with a ton of pillows. Trust your GPS because you won’t believe there can be a hotel back there, but there is and well worth trip.
