My stay at the Ohana recovery center was a quick decision for which I will forever be grateful. From the welcoming, to the group therapy, to the adventures, to the bittersweet goodbye, this place met me where I started and helped me move forward on my path. Man, where do I began to speak about The Ohana? First I would like to personally thank each and everyone at the Ohana, and I would like to name each of them out, because they played a huge part in getting me on my road to recovery. Michelle, Joseph, Laurna, Genesis, Lee, David, Allison, Coe, Dana , and last but not least Derwin. I personally thank you all for the support, encouragement, and the opportunity to learn to live a sober life. I came into the Ohana a lost individual, and I left there as a man that found his identity by doing deep work in discovering, uncovering, and discarding a lot of trauma. From the moment I got to the Ohana, I felt welcomed and surrounded by people who genuinely cared, and it made it easy to be open and honest. I can’t even express how grateful I am for this place. I came here without hope and no longer wanting to live. This place, the staff, clients and experiences truly saved my life. With my family being from the islands getting to connect back to my roots was so special to me. The Ohana Addiction Treatment Center gave me the ability to look at my Complex Trauma as stepping stones to healing and not a death sentence. Drinking was a solution to silence the pain but once removed with the right coping skills learned at The Ohana I was able to conquer the lies, dark nights and false mindset created by trauma. The place is so healing and beneficial if you are willing to put in the hard work. This place is truly my Ohana. Mahalo to all the therapists, counselors, and employees at the Ohana. My mother spent 2.5 weeks there and while she missed home in Kona she absolutely loved all the nurses, staff and doctors. They were so attentive, accommodating and friendly. They communicated frequently with me and were very attentive to her needs. Because of their care she recovered quickly and was able to come home.

Just got a full scholarship here. Flying out in several days to begin the journey. I actually started writing about a long term rehabilitation program that I wanted to create myself after coming to the conclusion that 30, 60, & 90 day programs do not work. I kept experiencing relapses my whole life, even after squeezing out decent periods of stability and sobriety. I wrote a mini thesis/treatise on the 95%+ failure rate of short term treatment. Habilitat seems to agree with all my key principles. Here I am again, submerged and stuck in the same addiction web I always seem to fall into. I found Habilitat on the internet while browsing programs that held certain features I expected my own imaginary, picture-perfect program to have. Habilitat was the only one I found with any computer-related work. I wanted computer programming, microsoft application training and foreign language to be in my ideal treatment center but Habilitat does have graphic design. Will be returning at some point in the future to update my review based on my experience there.

Habilitat offers a great model of approach that is unlike any model I have been apart of before.
What has stood out to me the most at the facility is the sense of family, self value, self reflection and accountability.

As an Addiction Counsellor from Australia, I found Habilitat Inc. to be one of the most effective treatment centers I have encountered in my 30 year experience of dealing with addiction.

Habilitat does NOT bill people’s insurance. The program offers long term treatment with vocational training on a sliding scale payment system. In fact, they claim that they do not turn people away just because they can’t pay. They are a behavioral health program which doesn’t accept severely mentally ill people. They are actually not licensed for that population. They have a license through the Hawaii State Health Department Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division. They are a 501c3 non-profit in good standing with the State AG, Better Business Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. The serve a population of over 100 at their residential facility on Kaneohe Bay. They have been called the “Gold Standard” in addiction treatment. Their claim is that when all else fails “Habilitat gets results.” Since they have been around since the ’70’s and are well known throughout the country, online and in the judicial system I’d say this program is one of the most effective treatments for addiction. Many claim its hard… after 10 other treatment programs Habilitat saved my daughter’s life. Today she is clean, happy, employed and taking care of her children. We will always be grateful to Habilitat and its staff.
