Took the tour with a member if the family that owns the house and he did great as the guide! The tour is about an hour long (has stairs to climb) with lots in very unique turn of the century aspects. I’ve been through a lot of old houses and saw things here I’ve never seen. No expense was spared at the time of its building and those quality features remain impressive to this day. Lilacs are in bloom the 3rd week of June. Our tour guide was excellent and answered all of our questions. The architecture and woodwork in the mansion is amazing. The colored plaster treatment on the walls was very cool – never seen this technique before.By Reed Brown (4 months ago)The Copper King Mansion is very beautiful and unique. Very interesting guided tour. We stayed for our Anniversary. The bed and breakfast side is alright but you quickly find out that the owner is more willing to stuff the mansion with shtick and has less interest in fixing items like broken window wood slats and not putting appropriate window coverings on instead of just sheers. They say there are no street lights on the street they’re on, they’re right, but there’s a ton of street lights on the main roads that shine into the room from up the hill. Also landscape and carriage lights around the immediate outside grounds that don’t go off.
We stayed in the huge, beautiful, 2 queen Family Room after finding out we were the only ones staying and the single bed would be too tucky in the Owner’s suit. Queen beds are the only beds and are short so if you’re taller than 5’9″, prepare to sleep corner to corner. Fluffy but somewhat unsupportive down pillows are on the beds…bring your own if you need to. The amber glass window above the door into the hallway lets a lot of light in so be sure to ask that hallway lights will be turned off outside the rooms at bedtime.
Good supply of modern electric lights and outlets by the beds was helpful with nice small tables as bedside tables. Bring a power strip if you require more than one plug. The bedside table light takes up one. There are limited to no outlets in other places in the room. No alarm clocks or USB outlets available so bring your own. No closet or other storage so plan on living out of your luggage and don’t spread out too much as it all has to dissappear in the morning.
The marble bathroom sink area has a modern outlet at it but the sink is tucked into the wall and is tiny so don’t plan on keeping anything out for long as there isn’t room for much on it. We didn’t use the tub but they supply a nice selection of quality towels.
They require you to be checked out at about breakfast time which is at 8:30 or 9:30am so they can clean up the room during breakfast. Make sure everything is packed and ready to go away from areas they need to address.
The breakfast is made with no menu choices…ours was a sit down at the beautiful main dining room with French toast, sausage, coffee, juice, appetizer of fruit, which was just enough. It was tasty. They change it up and many times, they’ll only do continental depending on staffing. Ask questions before reserving.
It was a nice experience but again, just fixing the shades and reducing light in the bedrooms used for the B&B would go a long way to a better sleeping experience.

We were lucky enough to have the place to ourselves one night, so we were able to take our time wandering around, exploring all the treasures that have been carefully tucked away in every nook and cranny.
We were greeted by the gracious owners who truly could not have made us feel any more welcome, and thoroughly enjoyed our private tour.

Humbling and touching memorial about all the workers who lost theirs lives working in the mining industry in Butte, MT. Make me appreciate modern and safer work conditions we have today. Nice views of Butte, the mines and the mountain surrounding the city. Various history boards cover related subjects. Some have audio! It works as a viewpoint over the complex of mine shafts and pits. The whole hilltop undergoes transformation into parks, trails, and viewpoints. ATTENTION: Cannot get up close without the associated bus tour. I had no clue until you get to a sketchy dirt road that doesn’t seem inviting haha. It was still fun to see from the Highway. When we scheduled and paid for our tour (about 5 days prior) we were told there were only 4 other people on the tour. A few hours before the tour (and after we already drove over from Bozeman), we got a call that the tour was oversold by one ticket and they had to cancel our reservation. This was very disappointing and frustrating. We were clearly pushed out by a larger group that brought in more money. For a tour to see Mother Mary, you would expect the staff to uphold certain values. In this case, money was more important than doing what was right. To grasp the size and scope of the Berkeley Pit Mine, the Viewing Stand offers the best chance to see it without trespassing. For a small fee, you go through a tunnel straight out of a science fiction movie to a large, covered deck that lets you peer into the watery layered hole that spans a mile or two. Numerous history boards educate about the mine and mining in general. Restrooms were not operational when I went (a nearby park solved that issue). The grounds outside the ticket booth/gift shop has a picnic shelter. Some of the grounds needed maintenance.
You know what, in the big pricing of tourist attractions and places of interest, I think it is comical that they charge 3$ to look at the pit. But, at the same time, I love it! For some reason it was the perfect ending to my unexpected weekend in Butte, Montana. Butte, you were an unexpected surprise and exceeded expectations. For small town America, it has been fun. This thing is awesome! The platform allows you to take a look at the entire pit easily. The fee was fairly cheap and there were a few informative panels that tell all about the origins of the Berkeley Pit.
Found this on Google maps, was curious to know what it was. We were visiting Montana and had time to kill. Entry fee was $3 per person. Walked through large tunnel and onto the platform that over looks the pit. Crazy how much water is there!! Turned green due to all the minerals in there. There’s placeboards that tell the history of it. Small gift shop and they offer a tour thru the city on a bus for $25. Place is interesting
Very interesting stop to enjoy local history, and very reasonably priced. Handicap accessible, so my daughter was able to see everything with us. To see and hear about the past mining operations in Butte, I would recommend this stop.
