I visited the Savannah Historic District last summer and had a wonderful time! It is such a beautiful area with a plethora of options for food, shopping, and entertainment. Many of the roads or paths I encountered were brick or cobblestone, which are beautiful but can pose issue to those who use wheelchairs or a blind person using a cane. Overall though, the brick walkways were very well kept and didn’t seem to pose much of a risk at the time of my visit and there was not a lot of cobblestone. The main roads are paved. There is an area by the riverfront that utilizes a fair amount of stairs spread out, so if someone is in a wheelchair there will need to be a bit of a re-route to get to that specific area of the riverfront. It is a very lively and fun area with a lot of music and lights which is very fun, but if you are someone who struggles with sound sensitivity I would suggest bringing earplugs or your choice of aid to help damped that. Overall, a beautiful, must see area in my opinion, and has few inaccessible areas from my point of view in my visit.By Cada Schmidt (2 weeks ago)We had some time to check out this historic district in Savannah while staying near bye for a conference. The homes here are historic and the architecture is very nice. My favourite part of this historic district was Forsyth Park and the fountain there as well as the Spanish moss trees all over. The park is a nice place to walk around as well as the area as we walked everywhere.
After seeing the homes and Forsyth Park we enjoyed River Street where there’s lots of restaurants and bars to enjoy something to eat and walk along the river where there were vendors selling things. The city walk is so fun and there are many unique stores to visit. Many beautiful ancient buildings (build in 19th century) with great architecture, good parks, famous restaurants, beautiful tree tunnel, good river walk, museums, greenery and finally Church with beautiful architecture are the specialities of historic district. If you are visiting for one day, we recommend using old Town trolley tours of Savannah. Based on our experience this trolley service runs at good frequency and have hope off and on facility at major tourist attractions. Lovely place to walk and take in the charm of Savannah. This is a lively area with a lot of activity. There are benches for sitting and watching the hustle and bustle. My mother wanted to see Chippewa Square because she loves the movie Forest Gump and wanted to see the park were he sat at while telling his story. This is one of the most beautiful places I have seen, especially in a city block. No wonder it was used for the bus stop scene in Forrest Gump. Across the street is the steeple that the feather floats past.

Lots of homeless in the square at night and I generally didn’t feel safe walking in the area at night. I could remedy that by just not walking at night but half of the ghost tours are all at night and meet in the square. This fountain in Forsyth Park is very picturesque. It is a spot for lots of photo opps and has a long pathway leading to the fountain that can also be grate for photos with the fountain in the background. The fountain is surrounded by lots of Spanish moss trees that makes for lots of shade. There is lots of places to sit a round the fountain to take it in and relax and enjoy it’s beauty from benches to lots of green space. This fountain is the center piece of Forsyth Park. I would definitely come back here again if I am ever in the area and recommend checking out the fountain the park and the Historic District that is in.By Donald hood (9 months ago)Such a fun park to enjoy! Especially during community events such as the greening of the fountain before St. Patrick’s Day! This is a central spot in Savannah where both locals and visitors hang out. You may see a proposal or wedding and you’re sure to find some excellent artists and musicians around this fountain which dates to 1858. Forsyth Park was laid out in 1853 and completes the 24 square plan of Savannah. Lines for the women’s bathroom had a sizable line. The second time we visited the park, we walked from our hotel. The shad from the trees allowed for a nice break from the sun. One of the place for which I will go back to Savanna. Photos of fall are even amazing. Visitors can watch a short historical video, explore a museum, and browse a gift store after walking one mile down a colonial road on a beautiful live oak avenue. Trails go through magnificent marsh vistas to the Colonial Life Area, where, weather permitting, costumed interpreters perform living history performances in the afternoons. You stop when you first drive through the gates to get tickets, $5 ea and then drive down this beautiful 1.5 mile road with Live Oaks that cover the road like a tunnel. So pretty! The two miles road under the live Oak tree is insanely beautiful and breathtaking. I will probably visit this again. After entering the gate, first thing officer will ask is to get the tickets. It will cost $10 per adult. At the end of the road is museum and a shop. They also have washroom outside. Apart from this, two beautiful trails will take your journey to the next level. The grounds are very pretty. So much history, and great photography opportunity. If you’re in the area, I would recommend checking this place out. This was a few minutes from our campground at Skidaway Island, and was a favorite place in Savannah. The mile long driveway of mossy trees was so nice to drive through, and they had plenty of trails which we took our two dogs on. We spent a couple of hours here, and that was plenty of time. Great park in Savannah. We got there in the morning and it was fairly crowded. Has historical statues. Has a lovely fountain. Has public restrooms and a restaurant and Leopold’s ice cream parlor. The one at Broughton st usually has a long queue, so this might be a better option for you if you don’t want to wait that long. People were enjoying themselves in the park and it was well maintained. I had a good time!!!
I had the opportunity to explore this park while in the Savannah Hilton Head area for a conference a while back. The park is located in the beautiful Savannah Historic District. The park has lots of space and grass area as well as gorgeous Spanish moss trees and a fountain and more. Being in the Historic District Forsyth Park is also just steps away from some historic homes and places. The park and area was a grate place to explore and go for a walk

This is a large park with a sense of peace and deep history.
The sidewalk circles the outer edge of the park and then cuts through towards the fountain.
Lots of people from all.walks of life visits here and simply hang out just to enjoy the energy it emits.

Park with an area of 10 Acres. Beautiful and well maintained. This park has a beautiful fountain. We enjoyed our time here. There are many vendors selling paintings, souvenirs etc. This park has children’s play area. This park has many seats to sit and relax. The park was crowded during our visit as it was saint Patrick’s weekend.A must place to visit in Savannah for a cool atmosphere.
Great park in Savannah. I frequent visit this park due to it’s attraction. This time I visited in the late morning time and found very less people so feel comfortable to have family photograph.
Don’t forget to buy painting or handmade ornaments (as a memory of park visit) sold by street vendors. You are supporting locals by buying some products .
Park is clean and have public restroom. If you are with kids, they can enjoy in kids zone too
