  1. Awesome park! We got to take beautiful pictures. The walk was nice and long, because we did alot of the trails. I recommend going early and taking water and bug spray. We only got to see a snake, no other type of wildlife.

  2. AMAZING find!!! Great, clean trails. Lots of great things to see and learn about. Family friendly, variety of trails to choose from, towers to climb, a bridge to cross and the views from top of the towers are breathtaking and refreshing. Lots of creators to and birds to see. What a FABULOUS place!! A MUST check out spot, YEAH!!

  3. Great place for hiking, biking and watching wildlife. The trails are clean and well defined, with lots of trees and vegetation that offer good shade. There is a hanging bridge and an observation tower not to far from the main entrance.

  4. Different environment/location to visit in the Rio Grande Valley. Helps explain why the climate in the Valley is classified as semi-tropical (Rio Grande used to flood the Valley before farming, irrigation canals, development, etc.) and information on some of the diverse feline wildlife still present. Plenty of trails through flat terrain – bring liquids and comfortable footwear. A tall tower to climb for viewing across to Mexico and a rope swing bridge to cross. I did not know ebony trees were previously native to the area! The Border Wall is being built towards the Refuge and would slice through it if completed.

  5. We visited later in the afternoon and the Refuge was quite and tranquil. Tons of wildlife and beautiful scenery. I would like to take our bikes back to explore a little more further into the trails. The nats were really bad the day we visited that was the only downside really. There were restrooms open and areas to eat. The area is very well kept and inviting. There was a lot of border patrol on site.
I’m glad we went out of our way to visit we will definitely be coming back to explore more.

Lovely place to hang out, work out, play soccer, basketball, and picnic! I loved the 1 mile walking track and got a good work with the workout stations! Even better the Boys and Girls Club is here too! It would be nice to see more flowers!

Nice park… but why is it closed until 8am in the morning? Why not “open” it earlier so people walk or jog on the track before the overpowerinf heat kicks in? Kind of ridiculuous

It’s been almost 20 years since I played soccer and baseball here as a kid, good to see it’s still being enjoyed for all varieties of sports, and my 3 year old greatly enjoyed the newer climbing and slide equipment

My husband is from Texas. And he use to live across the street from this park. It is a nice park. Right next to a raspa place. We got raspas and ate them at the park. Very nice park.

Awesome little walk and very nice displays. Set up for Valentine’s Day, so very cute. Gorgeous buildings. Nice displays about water and native plants.

Gorgeous home and grounds! Plan to spend 2-3 hours here. Bring $ for the gift shop – nice things, good prices. Really nice staff!

The Illumina Fest at Quinta Mazatlán was very nice. Some parts on the trail became very dark and a lot of the performances and shows were over, scaled down, or were no longer showing by the time we arrived. We scheduled a later time on a Thursday and, in hind sight, we would probably have scheduled an earlier time. It was a bit pricey for what we experienced (approximately $40 for 2 adults and 2 children). We may just stick to their day activities.

Nice hidden gem in McAllen. Large swings on the back garden are fun to ride. Definitely recommend visiting if you haven’t and live in McAllen.

I really liked this museum. It is small but the art is high quality and diverse. Free parking, total admission for my family of five was $13. They were having a painting class we could have joined for free but we were hungry. It was nice to spend an hour here.

This was the first place we stopped in McAllen after lunch. It was honestly a lot smaller than we had anticipated, but packed with a lot of beautiful art and some geology. The science section is definitely geared toward children, which is very educational.

If you are in McAllen, be sure to visit. It is a smaller place, but the exhibits change and it’s all good. It’s a great building architecturally, and has great courtyards. One courtyard is bursting with palm trees. See some fabulous artwork too. Not an “all day” type of place though.

Had a great time enjoying the art. It was so peaceful. The science part didn’t have much going on unless your a child but that’s ok. I grabbed a great book about art in the gift shop.

Worth the trip. Friendly staff. Quiet clean. Beautiful art and atmosphere. Interactive projects for the kids.

Enjoy the trail they have, it’s nice and spacious. Also love the fact that the Nature Center is on this park even much more fun cause your able to connect with nature and see many different kinds of birds and butterflies ?. Also nature center provides lots of fun activities for the kids.

The sound of the birds is so relaxing this is my favorite place for a early morning walk. 7am you can also hear the church bells ring. ?

It’s a really a good place for kids but the bathrooms are not so great but the basketball court and the playground is really fun.

Love this park, but I hate that some of the community doesn’t respect nature, due to trash being absolutely everywhere. They really need to start setting up cctv to capture and fine culprits neglecting good housing keeping. Mainly for our kids so they won’t end up getting hurt in the process or joke on an item.

Not even sure if it is still open, but this place was great. You could rent the pool for a party. Very secluded behind Valley Nature Center on the East side of Gibson Park. 08/22. Pool is gone. They filled it in with dirt. Park is a great park, but every kid should have a pool to swim.
11/05/22 they have started construction on a new splash pad. Great for toddlers or young children, but the city already has at least 2. Still need public outdoor pools for the cities youth to have fun, exercise and learn swimming.
